Now that the Update dropped lets talk about the Harriers unfair disadvantage and why it has suffered worse than any other nations jets

It using a more modern way of tracking known as Photo-Contrast, which essentially lets it lock onto a picture of an aircraft against a clear background such as the sky. In war thunder this is turned up to 11 as no amount of clouds or treetops can disrupt its view, only ground clutter when viewed at a downward angle. On top of this the Strela-10M2 also has a much smaller seeker FOV size than it’s supposed to be, it’s like IRCCM post shrink size…

It isn’t going after the heat, it is going after the contrast locked hornet
Thus, flares won’t work even if they are included in the fov (which would be small after launch anyway)

Example of what?

of how a ccd camera would see to some extent in a system like strela.
if you read basherbendawg’s comment and watch the video you understand why strela can’t be flared in this mode

I understand that but its easy to decoy it when it needs the heat source. While the AIM9L can easily be decoyed regardless.

yes, some missiles. but you made the claim on the missile guidance logic and i wanted to ask you since you know about it whether the r-60 uses any of these: preset pattern matching, mass approximation or rate based targeting

I have no idea about the specs of the R-60 its a contemporary missile to the 9L yet in game its unflareable.

at what range or at all ranges?

Due to how gaijin has molded the Harriers thrust and heat signature you can not flare it almost at all within most of its launch envelope.

I’ve been able to flare missiles quite easily. Maybe it’s different against IRCCM ones, but I have no trouble flaring almost every other IR missile.

Also, do we really need another harrier thread?

That’s a straight up lie. No chance, and certainly not after the thrust buffs the harriers just got.

Again yes, when they fix the Harriers I will stop making them lol.

Seems the only way to get attention to things is to talk enough about them.

2 standard cms are enough to flare a perfectly rear aspect Aim-9J from about 1000-1500m away.

I think that it’s heat signature needs to be reduced, but it isn’t quite as bad as some people claim.

I’ve got tons of video evidence to say otherwise.

How is this fair

2.2 KM away as soon as my missile left the rail he did a flare to throw it off yet it tracked,
as the missile got closer he flared hard, yet still died.

That missile was not in the Harriers dead zone according to the manual, therefore the decoy should have worked on the first one.

i don’t see a problem with aim-9l doing that
show some r60 videos
i feel like r60 videos would be cherry picked regardless and you wouldn’t send all the ones where you were actually able to flare it away despite saying you cant
simply because im currently flying the harrier in the match and i just 1 flared r60 from rear aspect

It literally could defeat it IRL in this same situation with a single flare. No other plane in the game would have been hit by the 9L as the 9L goes for any flare it sees.

wonder why people are using the 9l in top tier then instead of aim9m…

my experience with 9L is also different, ive been able to get kills with it where the target was spamming flares (leading the lock on the aircraft) or didn’t use enough flares (too small thermal load)
it also does depend on the range aspect and direction of where flares are being dropped atleast when the missile gets close
however regardless of whether the aim9l thing is correct or not, show me some r60 videos

9M feels weird doesn’t track the same way the 9L does and sometimes its like it just dives into the ground.

i prefer the 9m and haven’t had much issues with it. ive gotten killed by 9L’s despite having maw that automatically drops flares

Ive seen hundreds of my AIM9L get flared rear aspect by full afterburner Mig-21s all the time

yes, like i said it is a factor of many things not just one
you see a lot of them hitting and a lot of them not and it would be easy to just pick either and then say “this means x” and “this means y”
however can you show me now some r60 footage as its part of the argument you were using
