Inspired by the Soviets, North Korea introduced its own version naming it Hero of the Korean’s People Republic as the 1st honorific title in North Korea in 1950 at the beginning of the Korean War meant to be awarded for outstanding courageous acts, during which 533 people received it and post-war many more amounting to a total of 6116 recipients today.
Till 1972 it was the highest title a North Korean could receive until the introduction of the Order of Kim Il-Sung award.
It was designed by Jong Chon-Pa who also designed the Hero of Labour, Order of National Flag and the Emblem of NK.
Since NK relies mostly on Soviet equipment this badge would find usage on lots of vehicles.
