Now lads and gentleladies, I played a game called Enlisted for some time. And for a time it was good. Then for some mystical reason they implemented Dispersion at what I can only describe as an ‘Impossible reality breaking level’, and it was insanely obnoxious. MG42 could not hit a barn from inside the barn, the dispersion was several meters at 5 feet.
Now, playing this event I’m suddenly reminded of the same obnoxious issue. I aim at the same spot, at the same distance, and I am treated to: Hit, Miss, Miss, Hit, Miss, Hit, Miss, Miss, Miss - As my shell flies over, and under, and over again.
Now I’m no whale biologist, but I’m pretty sure that such a level of dispersion is impossible with rifled cannons at that time frame from 1km or less. Why do I say this? Because smoothbore rifles can hit targets at 150m with 6-8 inches of dispersion. Not feet. Not meters. Not miles.
Culverin cannons could hit targets up to 5km away, not super accurately, but they could hit them. An 800m shot would not be that difficult at all, especially with an expert canoneer. Then you go further back and you have mortars/bombards that could also accurately hit targets at 300-500 meters.
Now, let’s talk about rifling. This amazing concept created specifically to stop such wild inaccuracies by adding spin to a projectile. It’s honestly wondrous, and you can take modern rifles and accurately hit targets at a kilometer away! With no more than a few inches of dispersion. Now these are rifle bullets, which are very subject to wind and other conditions.
A 57mm shell. Or a 75mm shell. Is not. Going. To. Deviate. That. Much. Gaijin.
Dispersion is a stupid and ridiculous mechanic that is highly overexaggerated in this game and I am frankly beyond sick of it in both this game, and Enlisted. If you’re going to make it so we have to aim for weakspots, how about you don’t make it a factor of RNG. At the ranges we fight in this game any deviation of projectiles is a NON factor. We’re not engaging people at 4km+, most of the time it’s within 800m. So stop it. It’s ridiculous. The sheer notion that a high velocity rifled cannon could deviate over a meter at 1km is obscenely stupid. Let alone several.
