No More CQC Maps

you think that less people play low teir than top teir?

Hint, a lot more people play the lower teirs than top teir

What you are saying is true. But the fact that the majority of players prefer High Tiers battles like COD-but-with-tanks have nothing to do with the concept of quality. Most people eat more often at mcdonald’s than at the restaurant. Whould that means that the food at mcdonald’s is better?

For making money, yes macdonalds is better. so for gaijin making money, it is better to do what the majorty of the community wants

Again…you are right but if we are talking about quality then…not so much

This is Gaijin propaganda that they can save money for proper map designers!

There are thousands of post everywhere reddit this forum everywhere because of the crappy maps in HT and the lousy gameplay, spawnrape, super fast games and so on!

You should pay 70 euros for their high tier tanks and then get only Knife combat on Ash river (9 years old map built for Panzer III and T34) where the game is decided after 30 seconds? Great endgame content. That’s why you have mostly only 8 vs 8 in HT. The players are so enthusiastic about their endgame design that many don’t even start the game because of the fun.

I’m not sure I got your point…

Wat. Range makes armor better

He wants a knife against tanks? People dont start playing because playing is too much fun?

Well, i can talk for everyone i was playing war thunder with in my time since 2015. ALL OF THEM want bigger maps, even before entering high tier.

There hasn’t been a “CQC” map added to WT in years.
We have bigger maps, no one thumbs them up.
People prefer the smaller legacy maps such as the ones @Russian_Bias screenshotted in his original post.

So what about Iberian castle? Its 90% urban area map. the highest range you can shoot is about 700 meters, at the border of the map. This is very much a CQC-Map in my opinion.

Not everyone would spend time to manage shooting skills. Actually most players are just casual gamers and won’t waste time on this, thus there’s no doubt the overall perference of street-fighting maps. However they are mostly WWII tank player due to the ridiculous RP income. And when it comes to modern-age battles, street-fighting goes further and futher away from reality while causing balance problem at the same time, the CQC lover would greatly reduced.
What we say is to make maps larger and less CQC for high ranks. The map design should be diversified by rank and balanced between different nations. Gaijin will never take these into consideration, they cares only the “overall data” but never dig anything deeper

Not really, since CQC lovers still make up the majority of players at high tiers.

Long range sniper maps are a disadvantage for russian tanks in most cases.

So yes, we do.

Im sorry? Sun city, golden quarry, Iberian castle, abandoned town, Aral sea, and Breslau are all maps that have been added in the last ~2 years and ALL are either entirely or mostly close quarters maps (a couple have some longer range options but often not many) these maps are all extremely common maps to play on

There have only been two fully long range maps added since I picked the game up fully in early 2021 after a long hiatus: Red desert (since removed) and Pradash - Pradesh being a map I have played a total of about 4 times since its introduction, and have literally not played on in ~6 months.

The other few maps they have added are Arctic, spaceport, and (re added) Volokamansk. Surroundings of volo is a large long range map that you also never get to play on, but the smaller and much more common version of Volo is a generally medium range map, along with the other two maps listed here.

Instead of these long range maps, the only ones we do get are constant repeats of fields of poland and eastern europe with the occasional spots of Fulda or Maginot line, the first two of which have some fairly noticable balance issues between spawns, and the 2nd two have had some changes somewhat recently that have almost turned them into more medium range maps than true long range.

The issue is that CQC natural favours certain nations. Soviets and Sweden I believe have incredibly good tanks for fighting in CQC. Meanwhile nations like Britain get completely shafted by CQC, they are not built for it. Better suited for long range fights and whilst to a certain degree this change makes sense. Its a form of natural bias. Soviet tanks were designed for CQC battles. Western tanks were not.

Iberian Castle & Breslau are massive maps with dozens of flanking routes.

Red Desert is in-game currently.
The reason you don’t play on those is cause MOST of the community has smaller maps thumbed up.

@Morvran
CQC benefits speed, response time, etc.
However, it does not benefit any tech tree for armor for the following weakspot: Idler wheel.
No matter what maneuver you do around a corner, you expose an idler wheel.
CQC benefits the defender the most, and the fastest people 2nd.

All tanks were designed for 0 - X range.

I’d disagree. A faster tank can get into a better firing position first. If the winner is the one who can get line of sight first, then the smaller, faster tank always wins. A the faster tank might not be able to push against a slower defending tank, but the slower tank is far less likely to be able to get into any position to engage the enemy because the faster tank is already covering it. And when you consider tanks like the 2S38 with rapid firing guns exist and can totally destroy anything and everything at its BR. then the gap gets even bigger.

With a complete and utter lack of smaller fast tanks. and APCs for a lot of nations. CQC is going to heavily favour the nations with them. Meanwhile nations like Britain, with heavy tanks (that are massively handicapped currently) cant always leave spawn at the start of a game without being fired upon by someone in a fast tank that has gotten into a firing position almost instantly.

Speed forces players to screw up shots, without speed they will hit your weakspot as you go around a corner, cause no one can protect their weaknesses when going around a corner.
Also HSTV-L is far smaller than 2S38.
& 2S38 itself is larger than Leopard 1, and Centurion is almost as large as 2S38.

The size of the map does not relate to the average engagement distance. On both those two maps your average engagement distance is close quarters. Sub 500m. There are only a few spots on especially breslau where that isnt true. Iberian castle there are a few more depending on which version of the map you get but they suck and are pretty open so are generally quite unviable

Red desert was removed from rotation with the Danger zone update. Yes its still in the game but not in rotation, I literally havent played on it since before that update dropped.

Im inclined to also almost believe that pradesh has been removed from rotation as well because the bans/dislikes are not enough to fully remove multiple maps completely from being seen in 6+ months.

Edit: I am apparently incorrect about removal of red desert, I checked the war thunder replay page and searched it up. There has been 7 battles on res desert and 10 on pradesh in the last hour according to the replay lookup.

Now, if I check this against a more common map, Seversk 13, in the same period there has been ~125 battles on just that map (and its winter version) in the same hour long period.
