Why?
Isn’t that obvious? Laser weapons are mostly meant for UAVs and swarm drones. Usually fighters fly at much higher altitude and at those altitude laser beams lose their power due to things like clouds and scattering. So these aren’t very effective against planes.
Here a laser turret shoots down a mortar shell.
took them from 2:06 to 2:24 to kill a mortar shell, 18 whole seconds.
with current top tier GRB, its takes 3 sec to detect and fire to a plane.
thats said if the plane is gonna visible for more then 5 sec.

The what if we added all the technology on demonstrator. Would be a nice end of line vehicle but your stuck with some dated tech. But I don’t think anyone made a suggestions for it yet but German mains are going to feel hot under the neck with all the smoke launchers over that thing.
I think it even had smoke dispenser system for the engine.
There is also Thumper a different test bed but with a powerful gun.
