Ka-52M mod would also give it a AESA.
Sounds like en excuse to just add another Ka-52
(and considering Z-10M/Z-10ME got datamined as own, separate, vehicles Id say its not far fetched)
and better DIRCM and so on so forth
Ka-52M,Ka-52K and the Egyptian Ka-52 would be very nice vehicles to see.
It gets an entire avionics upgrade and like you mentioned that includes the defense suite, and when we get radar jamming it’ll have those options as well built into the Vitebsk.
and Ka-50 yellow 25, Ka-50Sh, the early Ka-52 prototype with Hermes-A 20km range ATGM’s (datalink guided btw so no warning at all), many more Ka-52 prototypes like the one with Kh-25ML and R-73 and even more kamovs!!
What is this?
New Chinese J-36 I think
I though j-36 is 1 seater
its a fighter bomber
It’s like a B-2, J-20, F-111, and F-107 had a child
not really, basically a air cruiser, supersonic cruising, hunting AWACS refueller or enemy 5th gen from flank. Of course it can carry some large AGMs, but it’s like MIG-31, you won’t call that a fighter bomber isn’t it?
parallel seats like that enables better communication to do things like commanding drones or do AWACS job
well, side by side seating is almost completely used on aircraft with a significant focus on ground attack, F-111, Su-25, Su-34, A-37, A-6, B-21 etc
or SEAD/EW like EF-111 and EA-6B
you need to know why they choose side by side seats. It’s basically sacrifice aerodynamic performance/dog fight vision field for better communication(SU-34, A-6, A-37, EA-6), or just the plane is big enough that side by side seating won’t influence aerodynamic performance(Bombers like F-111, B-2, and they also need crews communications too).
in this case, it’s totally not a dog fighter, it’s the Shenyang 6th’s job, and it’s big enough.
On the other hand, if you are not a dog fighter, and a smaller plane need reduce drag, you can always choose side by side.
it also makes the fuselage wider to fit the big DSI on top
or its the other way around
but yeah i think crew communication will be very important for this one’s role, which leads me to think it wont be very a2a focused at all, probably drones or awacs or some kind of special strike role like you said
maybe, there are signs that both 6th gen integrated the cockpit and fuselage into the intake design.
not traditional A2A, focus on this 👇
but since it already a really expensive plane with all the ability of doing this 👆, it will also be easy for it to do something like long range SEAD and special strike jobs, but it’s just overqualified to just use all these huge radars and other fancy equipments to just do A2G.
A2A comes first, then it benefits A2G.
although former long range a2a platforms (F-14, Tornado a2a variants, F-4 with its sparrows, MiG-31) all had front and back seating, it makes sense for the J-36 to have side by side since it has to be really wide to fit all its weaponry and sensors as well as the 3 engines
i think we could see a J-36D (i think thats the Chinese way of designating EW/SEAD variant right?) in a decade or less
IDK, I mean, there isn’t even any 5th gen EW planes, part because they integrated much of this ability already, also you can’t just hang a bunch of EW pods in stealth plane and ask them to do EW works, it’s like making them a lighthouse and lose their advantage.
As for SEAD, it is just already stealth plane’s advantage, they are stealth, so can get closer and attack.
using the weapons bay or removing it to hold EW equipment is a possibility especially with the bigger ones on something like the J-36
this would also allow the J-36 to have much longer ranged EW than other platforms and once it sees a counterattack it has much better chances of survival than something like a J-16D
maybe. but in this case, you won’t need a D version
