15 and 30 are very similar, but can be distinguished by booster length
Although you’re right, i’m not sure SAMP/T carries Aster 15, i thought it was only for ships
Fair enough if it’s carried
Although i’m going to call BS on the 30km range. On a 310kg missile and considering the Aster 15 NG is claimed to be 60km, i’m going to guess it’s an other instance of MBDA understating the real range
Well i guess if you have source about it it would be great then, because when i searched on internet i couldn’t find an aster 15 being used by a samp/t it was always aster 15 for sea and only aster 30 used by it.
I have to admit that I’m starting to have doubts. I have an article that talks about it, but not much more. I’m going to continue to find out a little more to be sure.
Nah, i remember it because a comment was pointing that 4 missile was not the best and another answering that the mica vl was received faster or something and that is was gonna be upgraded for the numbers of missiles xd.
Germany got Iris t slm so it should be fine, we will just add some competition to it, just need to see which source claim the less range and with the added gaijin nerf it should be the same range ~ /s
no, aster 15 is much better with that huge booster.
SLM’s 40km is no match to Aster, it’s still a AIM-120 size missile, well, most of our new missile is AIM-120 size, they should have similar effective range performance.
I guess it will be MICA VL for FR
I’m a bit surprised Aster-30 only has a 20km ceiling. How does a missile with 3x the range of SLM have the same ceiling? Does the Aster have a remarkably poor altitude performance or the SLM an extraordinarily good one?
For example where do you measure it, straight above your launcher, or at max range ?
from the few videos and public data :
Aster 30 accelerates for 3.5s to mach 4.5 (1400m/s), then jettisons the booster. At this time it travelled around 2.4km (3.5s at an average speed of 700m/s)
Then the terminal dart takes over, and its sustainer start burning, no idea for how long though. From what i could see in promotional material, it’s at least around 4s. Assuming it maintains the mach 4.5 speed, it means the missile travelled 8km and is Mach 4.5 by the time all engine burn off
The missile should therefore reach 20km high no problem, so it may be a matter of the lateral thrust + aerodynamic surfaces not working well together above this altitude
The newer variant, B1NT (25km alt, 150km range) may be able to reach a higher altitude altitude because it has a new seeker, that sees much further, so maybe it can anticipate its target movement better and therefore the lateral thrust + aerodynamic surfaces control becomes less of a problem up high ? idk. Should in theory be able to counter some hypersonic targets though
Yes, I was also fascinated by the separate radar and generator, and even more fascinated by the HMMWV, I have been waiting for this machine for a long time. Now I am really looking forward to the HMMWV with TOW and the Avenger.
