ARH SAMs in general are in a pretty sad state, multipath, easy notching (making heli pretty much imune) inability to hit anything in a swarm of incoming bombs / missiles, etc.
IR ones aren’t much better, because of limited range, but at least they can hit things hugging the ground
Since it’s leaked to be a pack it would be a pretty save bet to assume it’d be a 12.7 9L+7P premium.
However if Sweden is getting the Gripen pack I doubt they would also get the 18D pack.

Yeah, it kinda depends on where the Gripen goes, but I can’t imagine the 18D going to any other tree

istg prem hornets need to be stop at this point on, if it’s for Japan I’d guarantee they’d disappointed with it and want something more local like F-4EJ Kai ADTW or whatnot, plus F-2A ADTW is already there, just not with Sparrow P
F/A-18D ATARS would be a nice unique addition but US is already crammed and C Early already there

Yeah, it would be nice to have more diversity when it comes to premiums
There’s no premium F-15 yet, for example, so a premium F-15J would be an option
A premium Mirage 2000 would also be nice

exactly, those F-15DJ could’ve be a way better addition, especially the ones that had aggressor liveries on
The 18D would offer a lot more CAS options than both a F-4EJ Kai ADTW and existing F-2A ADTW.
That would be the most important reason for adding the 18D premium to Japan. And we know Gaijin likes making premium planes with good CAS options.

Yep, alongside people buying a premium jet to stick in their GRB lineups, so they don’t have to grind to top tier air (yet) to get a high tier CAS plane.
There was a ton of demand for it earlier this year, but apparently it didn’t fit the requirements for a French premium and wasn’t being pursued
Hence why France ended up with an F-16
speaking of, Su-30MK2/MKK has been exactly like that, they have become like F-4S but unlike F-4S, they actually have a brain and multitasked
