In that context I really don’t see why familiar would have to mean similar to something that’s already in the game.
It could hint towards a well known vehicle as well, as something being well known means that many people are familiar with it.
There is no confirmation that the latter existed. What did exist, was assembled and tested was a Jagdtiger with the Sla engine, I hope that’s what they’re going for. But I think it’ll be the Jagdpanther G2.

GW Tiger is most definitely as known as jagdtiger 8.8 lmao
And unlike Jagdtiger 8.8 we have more info than just a scrap of paper.
That said, my two cents, when they say familiar I think they mean we’re already familiar with it in game, i.e. it’s a variant of a vehicle we already play
The only reason the StuG IV is well known around here is because it was on Gaijins initial plans for the ground tree, otherwise it isn’t notable at all.
Not sure about the Jagdtiger 88, but the Geschützwagen Tiger definitely is well known.
If it really ends up just being something that people are familiar with in the sense that they have played it, it’s gonna be the Jagdpanther G2, not the StuG IV.
Submarines are fixing to be the most overhyped addition ever in the most boring and least balanced mode in the game.
(I still kinda want them though)

I shouldnt have said well known, I meant familiar. The Stug and Jagdtiger are familiar becaut they are extremely similar to vehicles already in the game. The GW Tiger would be too unique to call familiar

It’s crazy to me that submarines are more hyped than infantry, but I think neither would be good additions.
Again, familiar doesn’t have to mean that something is similar to something else.
You can be familiar with the GW Tiger by knowing about it.
As mentioned before, if many people know about something, there also are many people that are familiar with it.
Im not disputing the definition of familiar, my claim is that their choice to use the word familiar hints at something similar to whats in game. If they meant familiar just to mean well known then they would use it a lot more in news posts
There are many words they could have picked.
They could have called it long awaited, highly anticipated, well known, etc
None of these phrasings rule anything out, except for things that are incredibly niche
