That engine is hella loud I can confirm.
In 2025 2 italian F-35’s at an airshow over lake Garda gave me a hearing factory reset.
Still kinda ironic how a stealth aircraft is one of, if not the loudest aircraft currently operated, even though it doesn’t matter as much at distances and great heights.

F-35As fly over/past my house a lot, some periods even daily (or nightly).
They are loud but at this point they just became background noice. The transition loudness from F-16AM to F-35A was wild though

i was really shocked how quiet the F-16 is and also really shocked how loud a landing A-10 was cause that thing shreeks

Yep, drove past an F-35B that was showing off it’s VTOL getting into Cosford airshow and heard its high speed pass before hand and can confirm it was very loud.
Although I found it not as loud as the Typhoon or Rafale to be honest. Those two were setting off all the car alarms during their displays.

they are not that loud compared to typhoons or f35s or f15s or f22s etc

ive also seen that display at duxford and im certain it was louder than the typhoon but idk
Makes you wonder why the Typhoon is so loud. On the other hand, the B-1B tho. Couldn’t hear properly for a couple hours after watching one takeoff xD
see idk man ive seen it land take off do displays go arounds etc and it seems much quieter than like an F-15 or something but idk
rafale is louder than an f16 tho (or at least when they fly above my house)
i unfortunately am yet to see a rafale so no comment there
