Makes me really appreciate the dark mode lol
Good I always used browser extensions for dark mode
Tbf, during the Iraq war, dated old MiG-25s with R-40s had F-15s running away, even impacted one on the retreating butt of an F-15. Can’t imagine how things would have been if Iraq had MiG-29s with R-27ERs.
F-22 confirmed in next update?!
Only because sparrows had issues and they got insanely unlucky. And an F-15 shot down 2 MiG-29 in one sortie in Iraq, although they didn’t have R27ER
When gaijin adds KI-64 its when War thunder enters end game
It’s funny you mention that the Sparrows had issues on the two F-15s against older R-40s that were functional on the older Mig-25s, while luque mentions about how Russian missiles are bad because of missile failures. Just goes to show it wasn’t/isn’t a unique Russian missile experience. There are also other notable examples such as AIM-9X not functioning properly against the Su-22 flaring or against a balloon, but as usual conversations online devolve into “Russia tech bad” even when there are examples where US missiles weren’t functional while older Russian ones were when it actually came down to it.
Yeah, it was just luck. Pretty much every piece of complex equipment is able to fail. I’m sure there are other cases where the R-40 failed
It’s not that hard to do though. A pair of Sea Harrier FRS1s kicked the living hell out of a pair of F15s
In BVR?
I’m sure there’s something else they aren’t talking about to that story
F15 had sparrows, but obviously the Frs1 did not
That is a huge stretch they managed one successful interception.
Which was down to the failure of EAWACS aircraft allowing that 25 into range. He fired in the region of 15 miles. On a none manouvering target, this is not hard for any missile of the time.
You then throw in if only they had R-27ER…Like it’s a wonder weapon!
Do not use War Thunder as a source
Yet Aim7M had the highest kill rate of any missile in the Gulf war.
Aim120 superceded that by proving itself shortly after in Kosovo.
I am also not talking about failure rates but combat use. R-27 as mentioned did not have an advanced seeker head it did not have the technology of NATO equivalents.
And if a MiG 29 ever faced a Tornado F3 it would have had to do so with it’s Radar completly jammed and disabled.
didnt it score its first kill on an Iraqi MiG-25 in 1992?
Yeah a Viper shot one down. And they continued to do so in Kosovo. And unlike the R-40 kill it was against a defending target flying low and fast
Its like believing then S-125 is an “anti stealth sam” because it managed an extremely lucky kill.
@Smin1080p_WT Sorry to ping you but what is the current situation with tcs and irst slave for aircraft that use it and skid-to-turn and notching for missiles that use them are these mechanic being worked on?
Probably all things coming in this new ‘Aerial Warfare’ mode, which indicates either an asymmetrical mode or somewhere to test & use modern A-A/A-G mechanics
or its just going to be F-4’s and MiG-21’s fighting
