Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion

For Ground, With the decompression, Im expecting a round of new top tier MBTs for most nations. I also hope they add “regen steering” using the Elde code

For Air, what we really need is new mechanics not new vehicles. I could see 14.3s for the nations that dont have one, but beyond that, im hoping for something like ECM added. Maybe also ARMs?

then what air really needs is some new maps and objectives, just transplanting deep strike missions straight into ASB would be MASSIVE.

Naval, I think Subs and ASW could be a real possibility, but we’ll have to wait on the Q&A if/when that comes

Where are SL crates?

what else could it be? there aren’t really other options

I mean, there are lots of other things this update could feature. But there’s a lot of evidence pointing towards submarines. It seems like this year has overall been focused on Naval in the way that the last year or two were very focused on Air, with lots of new and adjusted mechanics, new top vehicles, and lots of new premiums.

Submarines would be a “showstopper” for the last update of the year and probably are also a hail mary to get naval player numbers up.

We know the Q&A is going to talk about them, and given that last year’s CM post for the 5th update also featured the Q&A, it’s likely that submarines will be fully revealed there (or at least teased) as a major focus of the next update.

Between all of this, and with a leaker saying “you can guess” what is coming in the next update, it sure seems like this really is going to be the one.

Of course, I’m biased. I’ve wanted submarines in the game since I started playing years ago, and have been huffing copium each time. But this time it seems as though we really might be there.

By the way, I’ve been prepping a fake leak list for this update (clearly labeled as fake, of course), hopefully I’ll have it ready to share soon

With all these stuff… we are going over the average of 40 vehicles per update.
Or the main four nations are getting 6-8 vehicles per nations (as per usual) and the other nations theb receive only 1 or 2. Which doesnt really add much stretchability to add new ground, air and naval stuff.

I do hope that Japan will get some more WWII and cold war additions for air and ground, instead of just adding boats that 99.9% if the community will never reach.

I dont think it really would. If we treat the Subs as a semi-new thing, with 3-4 subs per nation thats only 20-25 ish new vehicles to add subs. I dont think it would be unreasonable to have that alongside 30 - 40 other normal additions for air and ground.

But it is why I think air should focus on new mechanics rather than new vehicles

Gonna be honest, the idea of submarines with the current state of naval does not sound fun at all. For either the submarines or other ship classes.

But hey, this is gaijin so its not the first time they ran headlong into adding vehicles that make one of the most unfun modes in game even more unfun…

They will 100% flip flop between being OP and DOA for at least a year, probably more like 2 or 3.

But hopefully it will be the catalyst for the actual changes they’ve been ignoring for years.

Personally… Im just after something different to do. Naval is starting to get kinda stale and I like the idea of slow sneaky gameplay

If the sub implementation goes well, perhaps ASW centered planes, helis (plus anti sub vessels with poor surface armaments if they exist) could also be added which might push the vehicle count upwards.

Yeah, that too, we already see some ASW weapons on aircraft like depth charges which are largely pointless

and its not just NRB.

A semi-scripted ASW scenario in ASB would be a lot of fun as an objective

Ya, well, Subs are big in of themselves, the real meat of their addition is the flood gate that opens for vehicles that need them.

Subs would definitely get me to play naval, but would they go in blue water tree or have their own section?

Hmmm…

Its a good question.

Technically they’d be a bluewater vessel, but a lot of their counters would be sub-chasers and frigates so could go into coastal. There is more than enough room for a new line in either tree. Alternatively they could be added kinda like Helis were in an entirely independent tree just for them, maybe even with the same cross tree grinding mechanic helis got

Can’t wait for the salt in the comments of the inevitable TEC video on that leak list

Also, as someone who abandoned Wargaming games after how they implemented subs into WoWs, I am so dreading their arrival in War Thunder. It’s so easy to do it completely wrong.

I actually did swindle him into making a set of videos on a leak list I made once, it was a proud moment in my life:

Haahahahaha that’s hilarious.

my only concern is if subs are in their own trees / costal they will take FOREVER to research

also depending on how certain ASW weapons are modelled subs at least early ones wont be that fun to play (with how compressed BRs are cant wait to fight ASROC in my Type 7C, S-Class or Gato Class)

what? where did this idea even come from?? they had 30 total submarines, not a single nation in the big 7 had less, hell even the smaller sub navies at the start of the war had double (France and UK at the start of the war only had fleets of between 70-80 each)
