Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion

Tbf, do we have for the US tree also such an official comment that the lines are clearly planned?

No I don’t think so, but there is… was… a very clear distinction between the production MBT line and the heavy/prototype line. Which they abandoned for some reason.

Hoping for Lion to be perfectly honest, though she’d only be justified at 8.3.

HMS Lion (1910) to be added at 8.3

Yeah, Lion would be interesting too.

Though being brutally honest, wouldnt say no to some interesting smaller class additions for an update or 2. Like a new cruiser and a cold-war era destroyer

A good cruiser would be appreciated.

But it would have to be one of the laid down ones.

Should AAM-4B be the next missile addition? We recently got R-77-1 and AIM-120C. It seems logical that on the performance progression for advancement in missile technology, AAM-4B is the next step. While it does feature an AESA seeker and features more range than currently modeled AAM-4, it is limited in only 4 missiles being carried. F-2A also can go up in BR when it receives this missile.

Should AAM-4B be the next missile addition?

  • Yes
  • No (explain why)

Also, if you think that AAM-4B shouldn’t be the next missile addition, then what should be the next missile addition?

they should ungimp the AAM-4 and Pl-12 instead

the AAM-4B is the same as the AAM-4 with the only difference being the seeker as far as i know

I did see the report stating AAM-4 should be moreso on par with AAM-4B in terms of range yes. They can still ungimp the AAM-4, but does that mean AAM-4B shouldn’t be the next missile in terms of progression? If not the AAM-4B then what should it be?

There is always something like HMS Fiji or HMCS Ontario and im sure there are more than just those 2.

HMS Dragon.

Not really copy and paste most aircraft are built for specific purposes

I thought you meant the Type 45 Destroyer for a moment then :D

Was very confused

it should not unless gaijin is going to model missile seekers properly
otherwise the AAM-4 will probably stay like it is while the AAM-4B gets a range increase over it, even tho they should be the same

To be fair this is assuming everything is modeled correctly. So what would your answer be then?

sure but then the question is what aircraft should recive them

becasue there is no more modern F-2 variant they could add and i dont think that it should recive a better missile which would increase its BR, because it isnt doing that good at its current BR due to its loadout limitations and lack of a HMD

so there is only the F-15J(M) left where it could be added to, which would be a nice addition to make it a bit more relevant for the future, which is also able to recive the AAM-5

besides that there arent any aircraft that could recive the AAM-4B besides a planed F-15 upgrade, as far as i know
so unless gaijin wants to add that one to leave the F-15J(M) as it is, the F-15J(M) would be the best option to add both the AAM-4B and AAM-5

Talked with someone who is a fan of Japanese aviation. From their perspective F-15JM does not have the radar to keep up with AESA technologies and whatever would come in the future in the 14.3 BR range, so they would prefer the F-2A to instead get it, and I can understand it from that perspective.

The F-15JM would have a pretty shabby radar when expecting it to guide AAM-4B at longer ranges while AESA radars have exceptional tracking and guidance. F-2A currently also is said to have the best flight model in the game in terms of dogfighting, so I think it would be “natural” in terms of flight model and technology for the current F-2A to receive the AAM-4B and in the future to receive the AAM-5 IIR missiles.

the F-15 has a few things that would make it more usefull in WT regardless if it will be an IIR meta or Fox-3 meta:

  • a HMD
  • less loadout restrictions
  • better acceleration

and in the confines of WT it would be a way better contender for the AAM-5
ontop of that FM wise the F-2 isnt the best for raw WVR performance and it would only suffer from IIR missile spam without a HMD to counter launch

the F-15J(M) radar is more than good enough imo, sure it isnt the best but it will work, also its flight performance isnt that bad either with being somewhere in between the F-15A and teh F-15C

rafale is now in between the F-2 and Gripen flight model wise, i think

I suppose the community/devs can figure out which aircraft or whether maybe both should get the AAM-4B. It just seems logical to me though that it should come next whatever the state of its modeling.

I agree, giving AAM-4B to F-2A and giving AAM-4B better tracking/resistance to notching/chaff would make it better than the F-15J(M) imo and properly crown the Japanese line with their own aircraft.

Also I’m not sure the extent to how ECM will play in WT but I assume an AESA radar would be instrumental to that compared to a regular PD radar.
