Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion

Joking, added ICBM part so it’s really obvious

We rge players have decided James May should host the next devstream

m’kay, yeah I figured it was something along those lines.
Just tired from trying to figure out VR piloting with my new HOTAS lol

fun.
guess I’ll have to find time to actually watch it if they decide to pull something like that (we all know they won’t ):
proceeds to skip school that day

how old are you?

Not old enough to down a stubby with the mates, it seems.

depends on where in the world you are.
In America, no. In Europe, yes. (I’m American)

When will we have cruise missiles? It won’t break the gameplay since we already have the glide and propel bombs. The new thing with the cruise missiles would be that they follow the terrain without crashing into a mountain like a glide bomb would. Don’t shoot too much. It would just be necessary for the cruise missiles to be considered as planes so that the AAA or enemy ships can defend themselves a little without letting themselves die.

and I can well imagine in the equipment options choosing whether we want the missile to hover or fly at 8000 meters like the explosion time for a bomb

The issue is range. Grom-1s were rightly removed because they had too great a range. True Cruise missiles take that to an absolute extreme and we simply dont have maps large enough to properly balance them. As much as Id love Storm Shadows. They would break gamemodes like ASB

The Grom-1 is different, it’s a gliding bomb that can go beyond Mach 1. I’m talking about cruise missiles. Gaijine nerfed the FOX 3 because otherwise the maps would be too small too. So they can also nerf the cruise missiles which are subsonic

The big advance in gameplay with cruise missiles would be terrain tracking, otherwise it behaves like a gliding bomb that maintains its speed at Mach 0.9

Grom-1 were literally removed for their ability to destroy bases cross map in ASB.

It will be different with cruise missiles, given their large volume few planes will be able to take them in number and cruise missiles with more than 500 kg of explosive are rare, so I think that the problem of making all the enemy bases at the start of the game is solved

Again, not why Grom-1s were removed.

The problem.

Su-34s could take off, hard climb, target a base or AF and fire. Then either RTB (if they wanted SL/RP) or J-out (if they only wanted score). Repeat

With proper cruise missiles, you can take off, once at launch speed which would be even easier than the Grom-1s. You can fire at any target on the map. It doesnt matter if they have smaller warheads, You would have some sending dozens accross the map constantly. Farming score and RP/SL without even leaving the AAA of the AFs.

Like Grom-1s they would break SB economy

I understand but the grom-1 is not a cruise missile but a “gliding bomb propeller” which goes beyond mach 1 and with a large explosive charge it is not the same thing as “cruise missiles” at mach 0.9 and an explosive equivalent of 100 to 500 kg of explosive and limited to 2 missiles because this kind of missile is very big that gaijin can add

Again… I dont see the difference.

Grom-1

take off, fire across most of the map, RTB

Cruise missile

take off, fire across the entire map, RTB

So you would have to fire 2 or 3 salvos to kill a base. Oh well.

yes, give us cruise missiles.

we certainly dont have a fighter that can carry 5 of them. or bomber with 24

To put it simply, given the size of the missile, it will be limited to 2 or 4 missiles per plane and with less explosives.

To put it simply. That is irrelevant.

Instead of taking 1-2 minutes to fire off a salvo of Grom-1s to kill 1x base

You are taking 30 seconds to a minute to fire enough to damage 1/3 to 1/2 a base with even more safety than the Grom-1s.

You would literally see people taking off and firing them at bases without leaving the relative sanctuary of an AF in SB

Yes, with the fighters, the common load will probably be 2 and rarely will attackers have 4.
when we see the size of these munitions it is understandable

can 5 1,000lb bombs destroy a sim base?
