Welcome to the Russian air experience lmao. 30mm is heavy and arcs, is great for punching, but good God you really can’t gunfight for more than about enemy plane. Cockpit view on the Su-30SM has way too much symbology to see anything, and then your arc is so steep, you don’t get the pip unless you are heavily leading your target in the first place.

I just stopped bothering with guns after the IL-2/MiG-3 basically, and premiumed my way to missile carriers because it’s just not easy or fun enough.

Yeah, but Gaijin have kinda denied adding subtrees to nations with strained political relationships (Japan & SK) and given current events, that’s not happening anymore

Yeah, Russian 30mm is punchy but there’s a reason M61 has been the gold standard for so long

Well their current relationship is a bit complicated, but not outright hostile, like CAN/USA are now (what a weird sentence tbh) or Japan/SK, which tbf are more really badly strained than outright hostile

It’s too bad they switched from the 23mm to the 30mm. While the 23mm is also heavy and has a similar arc, it’s nowhere as sluggish are the 30mm.

For an attacker it’s fine, plus the gunpods on the Su-25 are 23mms, only the main gun is 30mm.
On an actual fighter the 30mm is terrible.

R-73 would really be doing the heavy lifting if they’d fix the gyro issues and give it a little better flare resistance/gating.

It’s all ACM + R-77 with the occasional R-27ET to grab the brain dead folks.
