Dunno, I think it deserves the HEAT treatment (letting overpressure happen even when actual penetration happens). More damage would be great, sure, but having it not overpressure because some spalling happened is just dumb.
The first prototype tank was the one sent out for trials to countries such as Thailand (1986) and Malaysia (1987), from what I understand the second prototype (completed in 1986) remained in the US.
Though from what I’ve seen the Stingray offered to replace the M551 was the M551 Stingray, not the Stingray light tank. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if that was offered too.
That being said, with two different engine and speed ratings, different FCS and sight options I don’t think it’s fair to call the variant Thailand decided to order the definitive production variant just because it ended up being the only one.
Instead for a US Stingray I think it should simply be one of the prototype tanks to make sure it’s one that makes historical sense.
Sorry, no overpressure for you, you may only damage components today
components? how generous of you
That is for the first turret, but it seems from the second turret onwards the smoke launchers were moved to the same position as on the Thai tanks.
This early turret also had the MG mount placed closer to the center of the turret
The main differences of the prototype hulls are the LFP mounting points, rear mirrors and the missing attachment points for the gun mount. The first prototype hull also seems to have used a different flat drivers hatch design. Initially the drivers hatch was the standard design, the flat one seems to have been tested temporarily. I’ll look into it more.
One of the two initial Stingray prototypes. It’s likely the first Stingray hull prototype, here seen with an unusual flat drivers hatch design. This photo might have been taken during trials in Thailand (note the camo is the same as the turret Thailand got to test with their M41A3) but that is unconfirmed. It can be identified as a prototype by the mirrors, mounting points on the LFP and the flat drivers hatch.
Details marked
It seems to be mounting the second stingray turret, which can be seen by the smoke launcher and machine gun positions being the same as the production models.
The same prototype during earlier testing. Here it is mounting a more standard drivers hatch design similar to that of the final tank. This tank can again be identified as a prototype by the mirrors and mounting points on the LFP.
The turret it is mounting seems to be the first completed turret, the same that was initially mounted to an M551 hull. This turret can be identified by the smoke launchers being mounted lower and further forward than any following turrets. While it’s not mounting a machine gun here and seems to be missing the mount for it before the commanders hatch, it actually has a gun mount positioned closer to the center of the turret which can be seen on images of it mounted to the M551 chassis.
Another difference is that the prototyles lack the attachment points for the gun mount, which are placed between the mounting points on the UFP on the Thai variant.
I’d say 15th time actually……
No popcorn??
Damn you gotta get those numbers up.
We are already past the latest trailer release time, so no its time to sleep
If I remember correctly we seen a one which was a little bit more late but yeah probably not
Latest was 21 UTC
Is there a chance for a teaser tomorrow or on Monday? What do you think?
Yeah, latest one was 21:41 UTC per the spreadsheet, which would be in about 15 minutes time, but that was during December, i.e. not during daylight savings, so it feels unlikely they’d post a teaser so late in the day Europe time.
If there is evidence to suggest something is incorrect about the American version when it comes, then as mentioned previously, a report is welcome. But for now, both the US and Thai versions are just the Stingray.
No teaser chat 🥀
i ate it mb bro, got hungry
Not impossible, there’s been teasers on every day of the working week, it’s just Thursday is by far the most common (75% of all teasers were released on a Thursday, compared to ~8% each for Monday/Tuesday or ~4% for Wednesday/Friday)
None currently to speak of at this moment in time.
