Yeah it gets all the new electronics and their programs, hence why JP missiles don’t work on it, cause the US doesn’t wanna let japan mess with their shiny new electronics. (This has not stopped japan in the past, the US never approved the AAM-4’s installation on the F-15J in the first place, lmao.)
F-15C’s didn’t even get the EPAWSS upgrade though, it got canceled
because it dosent
it has the mounting points for it at the cockpit for example, but there arent any sensors in it
Yeah ik that’s why I was confused
Nevermind just checked and the FBW specifically isn’t being upgraded, although the other programs on the central computer are? I dunno what this means for 12x amraams.
Most likely will remain as talk then.
Some special test F-15’s used the outer hardpoints but they caused issues so no combat coded hydraulic F-15 uses them afaik, and those that do are all FBW
Yeah my bad, apparently only stations for sensors are built into the F-15EX (leftover design from the F-15QA), but the US hasn’t installed sensors for MAWS yet.
Colour coded the main features of EPAWSS for how it would compare to an F-15J(M) (with IEWS setup)
Blue is stuff that’s an upgrade, red is stuff the J(M) can already do, black is stuff japan’s not interested in, and green is something where it’s unclear of how much the improvement will actually be, because RWR information is super hard to find, but the F-15J(M) has a very very modern (2011)? digital RWR so it should be fairly comparable.
The J(M) just has a really good defensive suite for a not EX derived eagle
I’d put the EPAWSS on par with or better than ASQ-239 Barracuda (F-35) since its meant to protect larger, more valuable aircraft and is also newer than Barracuda.
Though for ALE-47, it should be blue since EPAWSS consists of the increased # of dispensers. EPAWSS may even be able to get some ranging data with the RWR
DAS:
The J(M) can already get ranging data from it’s RWR to track incoming missile priority and for automatically selecting countermeasures for, and it’s unclear if japan is getting the additional countermeasures or not.
Honestly i wish we’d have EW in game just because it’s kinda the highlight of modern JP aviation, the F-15J, F-2,and even the P-1 have incredibly good systems rivaling the most modern the US has to offer.
Wish her reload is shorter than 43 seconds…
Maybe it prioritizes the strongest ARH seeker type signal?
And EW too advanced for implementation on modern aircraft, everything is too classified to do anything. All we have is vague stuff like “significant upgrade” or “performed well” (well it might be a bit more specific but hardly enough to implement)
How the J(M)'s IEWS works is it measures the direction and change in direction of signals on it’s RWR and MAWS, along with signal intensity to find the heading of the missile, it then deploys countermeasures based on that. So presumably it uses more CMs the more directly and closer a missile comes to it, or not deploying CMs if it doesn’t have the energy to hit. It also has the usual sensor fusion for identifying if a missile is a fox 2 or 3 for choosing the CM type to deploy, although, given that it has AN/ALE-45Js and not AN/ALE-47s, i’m assuming countermeasures for this would have to be loaded by dispenser.
The actual threat priority for the pilot is a lot more complex then that, with them messing around with a lot of AI stuff for it.
What MAWS does it have? Any specs?
at a glance i dont immediately see any MAWS sensors, at least nothing front facing
The F-15J(M) has the J/APQ-1 Approach Warning Receiver. It’s a multi-purpose rear facing radar based system, capable of detecting planes or missiles approaching from the rear hemisphere. The sensor is located in the black balls at the tail of the plane. It is only a rear facing system, with the radar or IRST pod capable of covering the forward hemisphere. (The Radar only mentions identifying incoming missiles, it’s not clear if it works for defensive sensor fusion on the J(M), although i doubt it does)
It’s specs are classified still.
Incase anyone here wants a quick laugh while they’re waiting for some more dovblegs, check out these specimens I encountered:
