Was the F-2 equipped with J/APG-1 in service in 1995?
Are you Japanese?
im pretty sure the F-2 was completed a week before the AESA carrying F-15C was
dont remember the exact date, but Japan heavily rushed the development of the F-2 in order to beat the US to have the first flying AESA radar, but that resulted in a comical amount of problems for the F-2
Even the most conservative estimates would have the first F-15 with 63v2 completed before the F-2 entered service.
With any luck, the retirement of the F-15Cs shortly will finally let us put this to bed
F-2 may have flown first with an AESA, but its adoption was mired in problems and controversy thanks to how insanely rushed it was forcing a delay in adoption since they couldnt actually produce the full order and there were several major incidents that halted production and usage till the earlier 2000’s
Was the AN/APG-63(V)2 proper service or an operational test?
There are documents of u.s-japan techonlogy exchange from the F-2s development that show that development of J/APG-1 contributed in a very limited fashion to development of the F-22s radar set.
Obviously not fully but j/apg-1 has ties to the F-22.
Well neither was in service in 1995
I’ve been waiting so long for this. Check post linked in my description
German, but Japan os a popular country and featured in any book/documentary about fighter jets I got to see as a kid.
Like I said, it’s usually fighter jets by country, with each country known for one, maybe two aircraft. F-2 was always “the Japanese jet”, while F-16 itself wasn’t as symbolic for the US.
Also i dont see why it matters who was first like does it really matter?
honestly, the F-2A Early would be a very easy replacement for the F-16AJ. It exists and while some of its flight performance is better than the F-16A’s its also worse in some aspects, Identical missile kits except for an additionalpair of missiles, and an actual usable air to ground ordinance
Smart looking engine. As far as tanks go I’m a huge fan of the large GWR prairies. I guess my taste in British locomotives matches my American sensibilities, larger is better, lol.
I’d say F-14 (movie star) and F-22 by far the most iconic US jets currently. F-35 and F-15 are up there too.
Being from US I only knew F-14, 22, 15, 16 and MiG (no type, just MiG). Idk how but I only knew hornet later
I am glad I found out about F-2 and other jets though
my younger self didnt really know anything about fighter jets, all i knew was jets were a thing because of stuff like Godzilla but eventually i got to learn more about them thanks to video games
I’m not arguing that. J/APG-1 was just as much, if not moreso a joint project as the entire F-2.
But the APG-63V2 was not.
Yes i agree with you there. But theres another document that shares they exhanged a few more things from J/apg-1 tho again it wasn’t anything super huge. But it is intriguing that there is some ties there with the F-2 and F-22 radar developments.
In this Gszabi list, I really do wonder what the ‘KH38 Changes’ and ‘Forced runway spawning due to weather’ entail.
On the spawns, I wonder if that’s for ground battles, air battles or both?
Forced runway spawns in GRB would be hugely positive.
