AIM-260 is definitely also going through an extended development period to enter service with comparable capability to AAM-4B (first AESA fox 3), late block Meteor and PL-21. If the first blocks of AIM-260 share seeker heads with the AMRAAM, then later ones will absolutely be coming with AESA seekers.

You can fire a missile before the merge though both iris-t and 9x blk II are likely going to hit. If it’s guns only the eurofighter has a massive advantage in t/w, energy retention and ability to rate. You’re probably not making it the merge because of meteor and even if you do, it’s a trade at best. Guns only and the hornet pretty much just loses, it’ll just get bled of energy and killed. I’m a massive fan of the hornet but against the typhoon, it’s simply outclassed. Even the super hornet, which is closer, is still outclassed.

Just a branch off of dogfight predictions, what would win, a f22 or a j-20
F22 all day imo, just because of U.S. Pilots getting more than triple the flight hours of their Chinese counterparts.

Indeed in the 2008 Swiss test with Rafale, EF and Gripen for replacing F-18s ,both EF and Rafale were better than F-18s (don’t remember Gripen stats vs F-18, but lower than these 2)
But i don’t think differences would be that much for not getting them around the same time.

I got a very rare opportunity, I’m in civil air patrol, we did a winter encampment at Langley, AFB, Virginia.
We got to stand litteraly 2 inches away from one, and have takeoffs/landings all week, greatest week of my life
