Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 1)

and they are never seen again

Yeah they look great. I’m sure I seen someone say they might be able to be used in the CDK but since Gaijin have abandoned this for 1 and a half years I can’t even load a map to check it.

I got that feeling too man, though I wanna cope that they wouldn’t go through all that modeling just to later abbandon it right?

It has high potential, and I was honestly impressed with the quality jump over last year’s WW1 mode. (which was already great)

Maybe they’ll update the CDK and we can just make our own maps & modes with the new assets.

Spoiler

I’m coping hard here

Gaijin will add 5th gens, subs, MmW weapons, a twin seat F-16 and F/A-18 for the US, Poland, add new stuff for Sim, aerial refuelling, drones to the TT, infantry, finish the Harriers, add Swedish Navy, give one of the Brit Phantoms AIM-9L, add the F-14D, and WW1 before they even think about updating the CDK.

Unprecedented: Bvvd personally answers on the Nuclear Thunder event thread

Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I last posted on the forum, but this seems like a good occasion.

We’re glad to see such a lively and positive response to Nuclear Thunder. It means a lot to us: we put a lot of effort and time into it, and it’s rewarding to see our work highly appreciated.

This time, the April 1st event is really no joke; it’s a test of new ideas, mechanics, and a new game mode.

We’ve seen quite a few sad posts, and even videos claiming that this mode is temporary and will be removed after the event ends, with calls to keep it in the game permanently, so I decided to share a bit about our plans and thoughts on this.

We do not plan to “throw away or delete” this mode. As I mentioned above, we put a lot of effort into it, and it includes many mechanics that weren’t there before — this is the first 256×256 km location built on a new tech foundation, and a new logic for a long-running mission in which AI units operate under a complex scenario with logistics, ground forces, and long range systems (TBM, MLRS), sophisticated air defense systems, and even cluster mynt rounds (yes, the TBM in this event are equipped with cluster warheads), plus an updated procedural nuclear explosion and its damage physics, and many optimizations to keep this mission within reasonable server load (up to 1000 units), ARM and much more.

However, we can’t keep it in this form on a permanent basis — there are a number of technical and gameplay questions to resolve.

Plus there is a need for new large maps, new AI units for other nations, new munitions for aviation of other nations, and combat ratings. Even a simple addition of another nation or aircraft with a different BR range in a similar mode requires thorough testing and mission adjustments, since flight performance and weapons affect distances and timing in the mission.

All of this doesn’t mean we won’t do it because it’s expensive; it means we’ll need some time for a mode of this scale to become a permanent feature.

Before this event ends, we plan to make a number of additional tweaks and fixes to the mission itself and to the AI (especially the air defense systems).

I also think we’ll periodically bring back this existing scenario while we work on turning it into a permanent game mode.

And while at it, add Engine 7 and 8 to the Seperate Engine control and fix that the RWR is burried under text

Fantastic news

Some actually new mode and improvements to air battles

This seems like a soft confirmation that we will see Cluster munitions at some point for other things. but i could just be reading to much into it.

They also mentioned non-player MLRS having cluster in the original event announcement, so re-emphasizing that it 's in the game in this new post does seem to fairly lead into that conclusion.

Related to the new AI units, there 's still a few in the files which haven’t been part of the current event/test: RM-70, BGM-109G, the two versions of Iskander, and Kh-55 - it seems reasonable to think that those might appear further down the line, probably when other new large-scale 256x256 maps start to show up.

Seeing BVVD’s response about Nuclear Thunder gives me hope. It’s bigger and more involved modes like this one that will give more opportunities for more vehicle types (more bombers, more interceptors) and more engaging gameplay. This is a great way for the game to develop, I hope Gaijin really does keep pushing in this direction.

Hopefully we might see AGM-45 and some of the other ARMs to test out before the event is through.

I do hope they keep this mode in the future with some tweaks. It would open up so many possibilities for aircraft and weapons that could be added. Stuff like:

  • More strategic bombers
  • Some “Novelty” aircraft
    • Mainly makeshift bombers like the IL-76M, MC-130, C-17, (possibly C-5 with the tested Minuteman ICBM as a nuke carrier)
  • More helicopters (if they allow them to be used in the gamemode)
    • Transport focused with some weapons capabilities
  • More interceptors
    • MiG-31, Su-15, YF-12
  • Aerial Refueling (since the map is big enough)
  • AWACS
  • More Weapons Choices
    • Cluster munitions
    • Larger Air Launched Cruise Missiles
    • MmW weapons

There’s loads of opportunity with the mode to expand on everything.

Modern naval targets
More anti ship missiles
Maritime patrol aircraft
Electronic warfare on a large scale
Stealth would actually matter if modeled ok

Unfortunately IL-76s only really have access to 50kg training bombs iirc… Nothing like the armed C-130s dotted about the globe…

Would love to see an Argentine C-130 though.

Another thing I think would be interesting to add to your list is recon implements, either pods for existing aircraft or maybe even dedicated (sometimes unarmed) aircraft like An-30B.

and giving all this for Sim players aswell, they gonna really apreciate this mode for Sim.

I like the fact that the event is said to come back with some tweaks.

Hopefully, the BR ranges are expanded lower too, so we can see aircraft with AIR-2 missiles or stuff that are like why did you do that with nukes. ex. Canada and the CF-104.

Yeah that would be cool, I was more thinking of the MC-130J with the MOAB and Rapid Dragon system for this mode (and obviously the AC-130J and KC-130J Harvest HAWK). Rapid Dragon would give it a standoff range of over 400km IIRC which would make it pretty good for hitting airfields and the new smaller bases from the event.

Could be good for late WW2 → early Korean War era too. Have stuff like the B-29 and Tu-4 as nuke carriers. Obviously scale the map down a bit but it could work with them.

oh peak, hopefully this wont turn into another wwm where we never see it again, even if it was just the same mission I hope we see it again soon
