Can anyone tell me why planes with HMD can use it below where the pilot can see effectively? It just dawned on me while trying out sim that it’s basically impossible to achieve in real life unless you’re in an F-35…
Well, what you’re ‘slaving’ with the HMD is the seeker of whatever missile you currently have cued, and said seeker is outside the plane usually, and able to see where you may not be able to physically. In Sim mode I’m fairly sure you can just quickly look around in the Cockpit and see if you get any tones from the missiles haha. If there was something hot enough to be picked up by the seeker in that direction then you’re all good even if you can’t see it yourself, because the missile can!

But for radar missiles that don’t give tone, this doesn’t really work. And it also calls into question if the HMDs are even programed to treat looking down at the cockpit as a command to search that area with the radar… I imagine that could possibly mess pilots up.
