Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 1)

I stopped watching after the third “look, this guy shoot at someone through a window!” xD

As you said, there’s some actually neat stuff too- it’s only natural that not every clip is outwordly, after all, they gotta share several every Friday.

It is hard for me to believe that they don’t get enough worthy clips.
Like, surely they get plenty of clips that are more interesting and/or impressive than a heli using rocket pods as makeshift countermeasures.

Spoiler

Seriously, using rockets to destroy frontally approaching missiles or as makeshift flares is one of the most mundane things I can think of.

I should’ve sent the one of me bombing a bearcats pilot with the lancasters 12k

Or even this

“i am surely going to kill this base”

At this point I am convinced that you could make it into the Thunder Show by killing planes or even just Helis with A2G missiles

Tbh i dont really want to even try despite some of the random stuff ive managed to do being quite funny

if the problem is range (we all know you mean grinding sim with it) why not introduce weapon restrictions to game modes?

Happens with the bomb bay on the buccaneers too, It’s reaaaaally annoying. Happened cause you pitched down during bomb release, at least that’s when it happens most often on the buccaneers.

Just to add to this:

Grom E1 (from game stats): 165 kg of TGAF-5M (1.6 TNTe) = 264 kg TNTe, roughtly eq to a 1000lb/500kg GP bomb
JASSM (from real sources): 108.9 kg of tritonal (1.18 TNTe) = 128.5 kg TNTe, roughly equal to a 500lb/250kg GP bomb

So from this you can roughly see it would take twice the amount of JASSMs to get a base compared to the Grom E1, if we don’t account for smaller warhead weight damage bonusses. Anyways, remember warhead weight =! explosive weight.

air sim is already broken with gbu39 and grom 2.

God that’s so annoying. I keep having bombs collide with the Buccaneers nose, or even worse, with its wings.
Though there is some potential to get some crazy bomb tosses by rolling and deflecting the bomb sidewards.

Or just don’t add them because there is no reason to add them.
What exactly is there in WT that would warrant the addition of cruise missiles and cruise missile/glide bomb hybrids such as the Grom E1?

There are no fortifications, airfields are indestructible (and if they weren’t it should require more skill than just clicking on them on the map and then launching missiles at them), there are no ships to attack in most modes (and even if there were, getting actual AShMs would be more appropriate) and most maps aren’t even as large as the range of cruise missiles.

Ground battles do not need more weapons with even more range than the Kh-38, especially not ones that are programmed to follow the terrain to avoid detection and interception. Cruise missiles aren’t even designed for tank busting in the first place

Air battles (especially sim) do not need weapons to make bombing even more trivial than it already is (which would lead to further reward reductions and at this rate the removal of ticket bleed caused by bombing and ground pounding).

Get the bottom gear guys to do the next warthunder update devstream as they struggle to navigate the menus

Is radar bugged atm? when I use TWS it won’t return to middle. turned it off and on still wont fixed (F-15E and Su-27SM).

Spoiler

Yeah it’s a bug, one of many radar bugs brought in the update.

except in SB.

And low tier ARB, but as I’ve also mentioned, destroying them shouldn’t just be a matter of taking off, climbing a few secs, launching missiles, landing and repeating

Yup, agreed.

Even glide bombs are tenatively “too good” for doing damage to things like AFs at the moment. Heck, maybe even GPS guided weapons in general.

High Alt CCIP or High alt CCRP drops or low alt loft attacks vs an AF take some skill to get right, but just point and click with GPS guided bombs might be too good.

(not that I would suggest removing either, they arent brokenly OP like Grom-1 and cruise missiles would be )

Maybe having to use different types of weapons to destroy different parts (like in sim)

The fortified ammo bunker/plane bunker hangar things could require penetrator warhead equipped things (like bombs or cruise missiles) to destroy, the runway would take either dedicated anti runway weapons or just regular bombs, and other parts could just take lots of regular bombs, thermobarics bombs, or a bit of napalm to destroy

They could add AA as required part but it doesn’t really affect actual airfield operations so I guess it would just be a defense like how it is now

Dedicated anti runway weapons probably are never going to be a thing due to the nature of cluster munitions and WTs (or rather Dagors) engine limitations.
I don’t know how they would implement thermobaric bombs either, as they already struggle with both napalm/flame based weapons and getting overpressure right.

Cruise missiles just don’t make sense in a PvP setup like we have in WT. There is no way to implement and balance them in a way that would make them engaging in terms of gameplay. There is little to no engagement required for the launching player and there is little to no interaction to be had for other players.

Sure, people could go out of their way and search for the cruise missiles heading towards their bases or airfields, but why woul they? If they add a reward for shooting them down they will just become RP/SL pinatas and if there is no reward for shooting them down nobody will look for them.

As it has been said numerous times before, if they were added people would just start launching them towards the bases and/or airfields and then land. Guess what Gaijin is gonna do then to combat this behaviour. They further nerf rewards for people legitimately playing bombers and strike aircraft.
