Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 1)

To put it simply. That is irrelevant.

Instead of taking 1-2 minutes to fire off a salvo of Grom-1s to kill 1x base

You are taking 30 seconds to a minute to fire enough to damage 1/3 to 1/2 a base with even more safety than the Grom-1s.

You would literally see people taking off and firing them at bases without leaving the relative sanctuary of an AF in SB

Yes, with the fighters, the common load will probably be 2 and rarely will attackers have 4.
when we see the size of these munitions it is understandable

can 5 1,000lb bombs destroy a sim base?

Now imagine that the Grom-1 is a C4 block and a cruise missile is a grenade

that is some BS, most cruise missiles have around 1,000lb warhead

Now imagine Grom-1 is an RPG and the Cruise missile is a fully automatic grenade launcher

It depends on the number of bases in the part, it can vary, I did a test flight and I needed 7 bombs of 220 kg of explosive, which is the equivalent of 1,540

Now imagine that in the rocket launcher the heads are interchangeable to put high explosive heads, fragmentation etc. while the grenade launcher just launches grenades but further

These analogies are just stupid.

Fact.

Grom-1 was removed because it enabled it’s carriers to hit and damage/destroy bases/AFs accross map in ASB with very little risk and this had insane potential for exploitation. Even had players in ARB that would spawn in, fire them and then quit. If the missile hit and killed a base, they would get the reward still.

I’ve also realised , you have massively underestimated their yield

A standard 1000lb bomb such as the Mk83 has around 200kg of explosives and takes around 5-6 to kill a base

Most cruise missiles seem to have a similar warhead size of around 450-500kg (comprable to that of a 2000lb warhead in game)

Storm Shadow for example has a 450kg warhead. This would mean it would take around 2 or 3 Storm Shadows to kill a base in my estiamtion. The Typhoon can carry 2, The Tornado Gr4 can carry 4.

Taurus, another cruise missile, has a slightly larger warhead at 480kg. meaning it too would only take 2-3

AGM-158A JASSM seems to have a similar warhead of around 450kg.

I think you are massively under estimating the amount of damage a cruise missile could do, how easy they would be to employ vs targets literally accross map and how they would 100% be exploited all the time.

Dont get me wrong, they would be fun, but they would collapse the already extremely punished economy found in ASB.

So maybe the correct analogy is this

a glide bomb is someone throwing a handgrenade

a grom-1 is someone firing an RPG

a Cruise missile is someone using a howitzer

that is CRAZY

whats the issue?

i mean i dont see one tbh

i mean
ADATS: 8 air kills
3 helis, 1 mq-1, 4 sukhoi(2 34, 1 30, 1 25)
ground rb moment

I wish the CAS players I encounter in top tier GRB were that bad at the game

Dunno, perhaps the fact that there are more aircraft than tanks in a game mode called “Ground Battles”

Yup, the Grom E1 apparently has a 250kg warhead, which is smaller than the warheads of most cruise missiles.

Though most cruise missiles have a penetrator warhead, meaning the amount of explosives in the warhead is smaller, but probably still close to the Grom E1. On the other hand the penetrator warheads would be pointless in WT unless we see new kinds of bombing targets (fortifications, ships, bunkers, etc).

Spoiler

Over penetrating tanks with huge missiles would result in some very funny kill cams tho

ADATS can still be buffed with a more controllable missile

Grom-1 was not introduced due to it’s range. Not it’s speed. That kind of range is a common factor of almost all modern cruise missiles (most even exceed that).
