Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 1)

Probably very well

Based upon some quickly googling.

Captor-E is generally considered on-par with AN/APG-81 but both are too classified to know for certain

Gaijin left the F-5A, F-5T, and SU-33 names in the code which were datamined a while back.

make it closer to 180-190 at 0m with the longer APFSDS

All VBCI CTA40 turret are crewless

I see, its just that I knew the Kfir c10 wasn’t in that leak but I guess his title makes sense

It didn’t necessarily backfire. The USAF and USN simply failed to adequately train its pilots in missile warfare. Navy pilots, after being told how missiles worked, managed to do exceptionally well compared to Air Force pilots who were actually given a gun.

I mean if we don’t get a dev blog today… we might have a very short dev cycle
this update should be releasing the week of the 16th, else it’s gonna be legit 2 days before christmas

That’s also a fair point
Navy never got a Phantom with built in gun

I kinda expect update teaser next week to get update in time, so yeah, very short dev cycle, especially considering all those not copy paste vehicles (for once)

Makes sense
Teaser on 5th, dev stream and dev opening on 6th

yeah precisely - either we’re getting the teaser next week or we’re getting an update on the 23rd

I reckon we aren’t even getting a dev blog next week

Thanks.

Since the 81 is a smaller 77 with some more nice features, and the 77v1 is upgraded off the developments from the 81, the 77v1 still probably outperforms the CAPTOR-E.

ALLEGEDLY, some F-22 pilots were jealous of the AN/APG-63v3 put on F-15C, and since the 82v1 is a further upgrade (originally called the 63v4) it seems US jets will mostly have sensor advantage and Typhoons and Rafale’s will have WVR

so how’d we get the update out before christmas?

There is an inherent issue fighting against a plane with vectoring muzzle. A non vectoring planer, even the most manoeuvrable ones like the Eurofighter and Rafale need to use the air to create induce any movements out of the engine’s direction, while an f22 can simply wiggle out even with no airflow on its surfaces. That, plus its pretty amazing TWR, would make a plane that I would not want to get close to was I in a euro delta jet

My guess is that a big reason why it is not added to the EF is that it would weight a lot (diminishing its interesting features) and be annoying to maintain and simply not worth the upgrade since dogfight is more or less dead

In the end its far better to use HMD and an insanely manoeuvrable missile, from IRIS-T, to AIM9X, MICA, Python 5… that can easily output even an f22 than trying to out dogfight it

The otherside of the coin is that the Captor E mk2 is newer than the 81. So might have new tech/.features that werent developed when the 81 entered service.

Ultimately though, we wont know for decades.

That being said. Europe does have a good history when it comes to radar developement. (Blue Vixen for example outperfomed even AWACS when it entered service in the 1990s and was half the size of the AN-APG-73)

If you want precise penetration estimations for the CT40, this excellent EBRC Jaguar suggestion sums it up :

TLDR : According to the old 1999 US army test, we would get 166mm at 0m for the APFSDS round.

However, based on the OP calculations from modern photos and given that the APFSDS used at the time were smaller than the ones used today (219mm length in 1999 vs 255mm length today), it is plausible that with today’s munition estimations, the round would be able to pen up to 192mm at 0m. Of course, it will be up to Gaijin to decide which projectile will be used.

battle rate changes for air is not stoppable cuz many new jets are not here yet

How far in advance of the release date do we know where new vehicles are placed in their respective tech trees?
