From what I remember, when it was initially asked about, the stance was that it won’t be removed. Since then, I’ve seen people mention in passing that it has gone from never to maybe. If that’s the case then once Japan has other top tier planes that have guided munitions (basically F-2 Late), then AJ can be sideline with XF-2 and maybe treated like the Maus.
The XF-2A is much better than the F-16AJ, so it can’t be a replacement, and there has been no official statement to my knowledge since Smin’s original.
Yea, even if the stance was a maybe, it doesn’t mean it will be removed.
As for the XF-2A, it’d be a little better but there’s a tradeoff. It would be every bit as maneuverable as the AJ is now but it’ll have a lower top speed. It can carry 2 more SARH missiles but fully laden XF-2A will have a less than 1 thrust to weight ratio so that’s something to consider.
I could see it slotting in at 12.3 (maybe 12.7 but that’s dependent on the radar they go with). So if they do replace the AJ, it’s in the same place it would be in the tech three.
It can use AIM-120s, so I doubt it’ll be at 12.3 if it’s added.
The XF-2A early in particular I’m not sure can. It’d have to be AAM-4s I’d think which I think is only part of the XF-2A late with AESA radar. I’m thinking XF-2A early with APG-68 so F-16Cs radar. The reason it would be 12.3 similar to the F-16C is that it trades air to ground capability for air to air capabilities (and AAM-3 if they add that at some point).
The initial XF-2A had a PD radar as far as I know, not AESA. I would not, however, be opposed to, for the time being, the XF-2A being added with only AAM-3s, and AIM-7Ms.
In one of the old interviews with some magazine, they definitely made it sound like they were interested in adding more Advanced Tors
That is my understanding but it’s a bit iffy since there were multiple prototypes testing different things. They were definitely planning to use the APG-68 the F-16C uses (same one currently in game) and change it later to J/APG-1 when it’s ready for testing. So the provisions are there whether they used it or not.
Yea, I agree. I wouldn’t mind it being limited to AIM-9Ls and AIM-7Ms for now and AAM-3s later (with a BR increase to 12.7 if necessary).
Id prefer AAM-3 over 9Ls but I think theyd be too strong atm tbh
Right, I’m just saying I’d take the 9L right now if it meant getting the XF-2A in the game sooner.
Britain would do the same with the Typhoon.
That’s why I said “IFV style”
Since it’s in the same role as the AMX-10RC. It just has the same armement that is typically used by IFVs.
It’s so small compared to the VBCI because it doesn’t have any dismounts. Which is why it would any more VBCIs would perform poorly unless we keep getting remote guns.
Absolutely I would like maybe if they make another conglomeration aircraft (whod be suprised) a REAL Japanese cas option
Or maybe give me the P1 im begging for :p
I would love to see the P1 honestly lol.
First Fly By Optic in game and the world we’d love to see it
No not real, it matters where u want it to perform, mig 29g is the better dogfigther, bit smt os better for cas and bvr fighting, the G isnt strictly better
Dont take this badly, but we dont need more leopards in other nations tree <.<
Acknowledging the fact that German air has almost always been behind Russia (and even America) since 2019, actually.
Yet it had the best most META plane in the game for 6-7 months , the german MIG-29 until gaijin destroyed MIG-29 flight model in september 2023 and added F-16C , it was the best plane in the game, and it was in german tree. It was lighter than USSR mig with no drawbacks. I am not complaining, just stating facts.
The mig-29 (9.12) was the most meta plane in that time period, the german one was lighter by like 400-500 KG and it was the best. I am fine with that but saying what you said is wrong.
Thats coping hard as well, the differences are minimal and most players wont even be able to use that difference, it only matters for a small percentage of stronger players
