Right wasn’t sure where to put this, so I’ll put it under dev server.
I just wanted to know how much the new graphics are going to have on performance - specifically ULQ, and around map redesigns and stuff. I’m currently running on a laptop with an i5-10210U, Intel UHD graphics and 8gb DDR4, I want to know if you all think I’ll be able to retain my 30 FPS average on ULQ for ground (I think my 40fps average for air will remain the same hence ULQ should disable most graphics features for air). Can someone help me?
There should be minimal or no impact at all for ULQ, since all the new effect including RT is something that you only choose to toggle on, or else it won’t be relevant.
Okay thank you, just didnt want to waste 6 years of my life just to not be able to play it when the Tornado GR. 4 comes out (probably my favourite jet in the world)
I haven’t checked to see if War Thunder is still available on it, but it might be worth giving Geforce Now a glance, if you have an okay internet connection where you are. It has a free tier, allowing you to try it out without having to pay a dime.
It helped me a ton when I was overseas and was forced to game on my old laptop. Made me able to play games as if I was using a far more powerful computer (and with the added bonus of it taking up very little of my actual system resources, so the system was nice and responsive for multi-tasking).
Just a bit of friendly advice from someone who’s had to settle with playing on the lowest settings or straight up not playing specific games at all, due to old hardware. (at least until I took the Geforce Now service for a spin)
Unfortunately I live in New Zealand and it doesn’t work very well for me, I tried it on Enlisted a while ago and it didn’t work very well, very choppy because of my internet connection. Not to mention last time I tried it I have to keep restarting it every hour, which can be annoying when playing with friends (After six years of playing I only find enjoyment in this game with friends)
No problem, and I hear ya. It was only tolerable for a little bit before I decided to put some money into it for the cheapest paid tier. But I also had a good internet connection, so the rest was smooth sailing for the most part.
Yeah I mean I can’t buy stuff online, I’m not old enough, I’m just hoping that ULQ remains more or less untouched, it’s annoying how a while ago they made ULQ more demanding to stop the abusers. It didn’t give any advantage to the ULQ users, changing it just made it run worse. I’m also worried about my performance on maps with new features like movable train cars, because that’s an extra asset for my CPU and GPU to account for.
I get it. It’s a tricky thing to manage for Gaijin too, I’m sure: On one hand you have users like yourself, who don’t have the option of just getting better hardware, while on the other hand you have the constantly evolving world of high-end hardware. Most players end up sitting somewhere in between those two extremes, but given that one is constantly moving, they have to keep moving to not have the game stagnate and become “too old” for players.
I wasn’t aware that they’d changed ULQ to punish abusers, but I also don’t know enough about that part to give my own 2 cents on if it makes sense or not. I’m sorry it impacts your game negatively though.
Yesterday, I found myself wishing they’d raise the minimum bar for graphics in Ground Battles, to at least force the foliage/grass to always be on for everyone. I feel like it’s sad that you have to not enjoy and be as immersed in the scenery, in order to not kneecap yourself by having it enabled - given how other people would be able to see you more easily than you’d be able to see them.
My argument was that at this point even the toasters that some people use to play the game on, must’ve come to a point now where we can all just have it enabled. But you just prove how privileged I am to even think that.
Anyway, I’m rambling. As the others said, all of the new settings should be optional, judging from the dev blogs and how it generally works for these types of features. As for the trains and other things… that’s a good question. A good bit of the game logic happens server-side too, so I don’t know if or how much more taxing that would be on your laptop.
It happened a few years ago iirc, maybe 2020? My old laptop (even worse than the one I use now) stopped being able to run the game then, the issue was that people would use really high resolutions and ULQ to see through trees and bushes and stuff, and that’s why they made ULQ more demanding, however I was forced to use it on 720p (On a 15.6 inch screen, so it looked worse) as opposed to the 1440p and higher resolutions the abusers were using it on, and I’d still get 10 - 20 FPS as opposed to the 120 - 240 the abusers would use. Effectively all they did was ruin my laptop’s ability to run the game even more to the point it couldn’t start. Luckily the next year I needed a new laptop for school which is the one I’m running at the moment.
I mean personally I like to play for fun, and I also play this game for immersion so if they made grass easier to render (somehow) I would agree, I would love to run movie graphics with everything enabled, even grass in gunner sight, as even I sometimes use camera from gunner sight just because it’s more immersive (except on the French M4A4, there’s an issue with it’s gunner sight where the barrel will just clip through it and go willy nilly everywhere). but I just can’t.
Not really, I mean people consider a 1080ti to be outdated now, so that’s the normal, my parents are just old and don’t spoil me like most people now, which I’m grateful for. If I was given a gaming computer/console whenever I asked I dear say I would be a much worse person.
My CPU would still have to transfer the data I believe, and show it to my GPU which is the real issue, I love my 10th gen I5, yeah sure I know we’re up to 14th gen but as someone who currently does my schoolwork with a laptop that has a Celeron N4020, I can definitely appreciate the I5’s power XD
Thank you for all the help. You’ve been very kind.
You’re very welcome, and thank you for taking the time to share your perspective too :)
I thought about the train/train car thing a little bit more, and I imagine that it’d be sorta treated as a “dumber” version of any player controlled vehicle in the game. Perhaps equate it to a tank wreck. You can move it, shoot at it, etc., but I’m confident that the player-controlled vehicle blazing by next to it is going to be infinitely more taxing on your computer. Of course, it would be less taxing to not have it there at all, but then so would not having other players there either xD
Ultimately we’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that it only ends up being a net positive for you and the rest of us. :)
