New to game and cant make up who to play

Im really new to the game, and on Xbox I have got the big 3 to at least rank 3 and Britain to rank 4. I don’t know who to choose to play because I like the British tree, as I am British; however, it’s so bad it makes me not want to play, and the other trees I don’t have the same want to play the nations. What should I do? Also, to add, I want to play on PC, so I will have to start over again.

Germany or USSR, those two are the big nations with the widest range of vehicles and a strong line of meta vehicles.

do germany have good air tree aswell as i do like to play that mode with friends

Best air would be the French air tree with the Rafale even with it’s dogfight nerfs. Germany has a weaker air tree than its contemporaries with a weaker Eurofighter (No LWS, No PIRATE IRST), weaker CAS when compared to Russian CAS. Mig-29s and Mig-23s that Germany gets access to are good, East german air line generally is much better than the Russian alternatives. You get a good access to a wide range of vehicles from the US, EU and Russia.

Maybe try sweden it basically All in one. it also have one of the most powerful Ground with all it Tier with APDS.

At prop tiers, german planes are some of the best for early and middle war.

The Bf109F4 is an amazing plane that’s a veritable joy to fly in SB regimes. It’s my second most used aircraft. It’s kind of a jack of all-trades - faster than dedicated flat turning planes, more agile than most american aircraft provided the american plane didn’t lure you into a downhill spiral (don’t follow them: a hellcat or mustang going down will out-turn you. You want to go up!).

Bf109G14 is also super cool, less agile than the F4 but incredible power to weight with MW50.

K4 kinda suffers from superprops.

Fw190s suffer in most contexts unfortunately. Its big real life advantages aren’t really relevant in Warthunder (Automated engine controls reducing pilot workload massively, light controls at high speeds, arguably better comfort in high-G maneuvers, great instrument panel for awareness).

Above 5.7 i dunno, I mostly fly 3.0-5.7 aircraft as that’s where mid-late war aircraft are. However for 3.0-5.7 I quite like flying german props.

honestly, it depends what you really want.

Do you have a favourite vehicle irl you want to play? Then go for that.

Do you want to chase the strongest nations? youll need to do more research on that, and that is always up for debate as a decent player can do well in most tanks. Each nation has strong tanks that dominate at different BRs.

My advice, and this is something i wish i done at the start (i even messaged customer support and asked if i could reset all the progress on my account but keep my premuim vehicles and refund the GE i spent on crew/mods but they said they couldnt), is to go through each nation and take your time. Play and spade each nation rank by rank, do rank 1 for all nations, then rank 2 and so on. Get to know each vehicles strenghts and weaknesses, play to that. Ive only recently noticed that i like to play really aggresive, and while some tanks can do that well, not every tank can. And it leads to frustration when i dont do well in my 11 second reloading m26e1 that doesnt have the best armor for the BR not the reload to be up close to the enemy.

Also while free acing the chieftan mk5 and rooikat mk1 i learnt that do what you find fun, but manage your expectaions. I had an absolute blast acing the rooikat mk1 as id just rush around and shoot things and then spawn a plane. The mk5 is a much slower tank that you have to play slow and methodical, i have something like 800 kills and 160 deaths in the mk5 as thats how long it took me to ace the crew, while i have something like 300 deaths and a similar ammount of kills in the rooikat mk1. I absolutely hated the mk5 and havent touched it since and i absolutely loved the rooikat despite doing a lot worse in it.

Play what you like, have realistic expectaions. Dont play a churchill in a full uptier and then get angry when a panther penetrates you or something similar.

So really in ground, ussr Germany and Sweden,

In air, USA 1st, then I would say Sweden because of the mlu 2, then ussr.

Get Sweden because American ground is utterly horrendous.

Do the modded leo line spaa and maybe light tank.

Then for air do the line with the mlu 2 and your choice for another line.

USA air in my opinion is amazing and will keep getting better, but gaijin will nerf it into the ground.

Ussr will be buffed because this is a Russian company who loved Russian things.

Please keep asking questions because that’s one of the few ways to Learn early on!

Britain air and naval is rather solid.

Its ground though is hard work, as its forced to always use APDS shells which require perfect shot placement. This is okay at lower BRs and not necessarily noticable at higehr BRs, but is a nightmare for 6.0-8.3 range where its rather badly felt. Though the British Ground tree basically ends at 10.7 these days

If you prefer a slower pace and a bit more of a defensive mindset, then British TT is fine.

But the Grind will always feel so much easier when you have fun and if there is certain vehicles you want to play, then you should focus on that rather than the “meta” vehicles. I mostly play air and have an absolute blast playing aircraft most consider DOA like the Tornado IDS

For low and mid tiers Germany gets beat out by the British spitfires specifically the LF Mark 9 Spitfire. If you want to play prop tiers British planes beat the competition by a landslide.

I believe there is a ONE TIME ONLY migration option for consoles (migrate your account for PC)…at least for PSN it existed in the past…TBH it has been “on hold” for some months, so not sure when available again…but i would check it if interested.

As said above…brits are very good on air and naval…and even on tanks they have good vehicles and lineups and can be fun to play. 2pdr and 6pdr are “odd” in the sense they dont “kill” as well as the “main three nations” weapons…but it gets better from the 17pdr up…
I would not give up on them if it is what you like…just need some “patience” on those frequent moments when you aim, penetrate and don’t get the kill…

Spitfires can be beaten. LF Mk IX is undertiered, yes but other than that - spits have glaring, exploitable weaknesses - at least with full-real/sim controls. Early spits really don’t like negative Gs. Mid-spits can’t keep up in shallow climbs and hate low-speed fights (they wobble all over the place under 250 km/h.) Late-war idk about as I mostly fly my Bf109F4 and Bf109G14 as the K4 is only playable when it downtiers away from ju-288.

Also you can log into your account on pc, just have email and password ready.

But buy the premiums when your on your console

Germany or USSR, they’re both some of the best nations with solid ground. If your looking for the best ground+air then Germany.

You can’t rely on the incompetence of your enemies to declare a vehicle good. OP is NOT going to be playing with sim controls and there’s a reason the LF Mk IX is on every meta list for SRB, with Spitfires practically on every low tier meta list out there.

Spitfires have a very specific, arguably narrow play style.

If people run away from you, you can’t really do anything.

If people climb away from you, you can’t really do anything.

LF IX is a bit of an exception but take something like the Spitfire Mk IIb vs Ki-44-II.

That fight is enjoyable and fun in a Bf109E4. It’s fun in a F4U-1. Given it’s fine in F4U-1, it’s probably also fine in P39 or P40. It’s hell in Spitfire Mk II or Re 2001 CN.

I would not wish that match up on anyone.

Why?

You are forced to engage the Ki-44-II but you have zero way to threaten it and it gets to just sit on top of you indefinitely thanks to its superior power to weight while you lack the top speed to disengage.

Bf109E4 can threaten it or run away however it feels like.

P40, P39,F4U-1 can just run away and come back when the Ki-44 is distracted.

Bf 109 in general have the universal ability to choose whether to run away or to take the fight as is, and later 109s can also be the Ki-44-II in the scenario where they harrass someone to the point they just want to die for the encounter/prolonged suffering to end (they cannot retaliate, they cannot run away).

109s (Up to G-14) are cool in that they let you do everything there is to do in the game given the proper relative energy state and matchup, letting you have maximal fun and maximal learning opportunity.
