Gaijin confirmed that Sweden will receive a new top tier SAM. I’m interested in what everyone expects.
My thoughts are:
Most Likely
• NASAMS 3 HML – mobile AMRAAM launcher, similar to the CLAWS.
Less likely
• RBS 23 BAMSE – Swedish system, but older, not widely adopted and not fully fire and forget. Also not 12.7 material due to range up to around 20km
On order
• IRIS-T SLM – Sweden and Denmark both have it on order.
• SAMP/T – Denmark has it on order
What do you think Gaijin will add? Any realistic Nordic options I missed?
IMO it might just be a worse CLAWS. If i am not mistaken it can only carry ARH missiles which can be easily notched. AIM 9X is the only reason i like the CLAWS. But come to think of it since NASAM 3 HML is in service so it might make more sense to add it
the NASAMS 3 HML should have ER versions of the AIM-120s so it would have more range than CLAWS, the non HML versions also have access to more lauchers and different short range missles like 9X and IRIS-T SLS, im not sure if the HML variant can have the 2 extra launchers the CLAWS has since they are effectively the same laucher system
yeah buk has some issues in it not being fire and forget (its semi-active radar) and its range is about 30km iirc which is better than the EldE 98 but not IRIS-T SLM levels yet
and BTW the slamraam IS the NASAMS, it was a joint operation though im not quite sure on all the details
Even the CLAWS can have ER version of aim 120s if i am not mistaken. But how would range matter if i can launch a GBU-64 from far away, dive down and notch. If GBU-64 intercepted then i will use unguided rocket or dumb bomb, get close while notching and kill them.
