Hello everyone,
I recently started to play War Thunder, saw some videos on YT and decided to check it out. Now as a new player I have some questions that I hope community would help me answer.
- Is there any kind of mmr? As a new player playing tier 2 and 3 tanks I saw a guy with like 30k battles shot me through a window that I did not now it was possible lol. Is the mmr only for tanks rank or are there any player specific mmr?
- As for the crew, since I have new crew I assume players that play this game all the time have advantage in regards of repair speed and everything when playing versus me? I was playing arcade battles and I was holding a street and a guy shot me from like 1.01 km. Did his crew “see” me faster bcs his is experienced or not?
- As for the premium, I was looking at that two pack german where you get ostwind and two other tiger tanks, do those packs go on sale or is their price fixed?
Thanks for all the support :)

welcome to the best and worst game you will ever play.
no. Theres no skill based matchmaker of any sense at all
yes. and its very extreme the advantage. you can see your current capability and the max capability on the statcard (the gold star is for the aced crew/best performance figure)

you just missed a sale period. i dont think it was in the sales though. there should be one around christmas too but i cant remember
I also would heavily discourage you from buying a tiger pack. that BR is known for being a noob trap and the tiger is not a noob friendly tank because of the armour profiles.
I reccomend playing naturally though the tech trees you decide to play for a little while before considering a premium vehicle at all. why spend money on a free to play game if you decide this is not for you shortly later?
Matchmaking is completely random and it’s based on queue and player count, I.e. there are no skill-based matchmaking, although battle count can say that the person has skill is more like the person has more knowledge in the game than you, as long your vehicle can pierce the enemies’ thats where skill stops meaning anything and is a matter of you spotted a target first and shot first is what defines a encounter during matches.
Yes, crew skill is a critical thing in War Thunder, Field Repair, Keen Vision, Reload Speed and Targeting is one of the most important skills you should focus for your crew. In arcade battles some skills applied to crew are more useful like Keen Vision and Coordination (commander-exclusive skill, the name might be other) that gives skill bonus give the player some advantage in some scenarios. Using binoculars can increase detection radius in a certain area but I’m not so sure.
Yes, lower rank bundles are the ones I’d recommend, they’re usually easier to play and doesn’t require the player a lot of skill, and given there are the “Two Fronts” premium bundle with three vehicles, is more than enough to play for an entire match exclusively with the vehicles offered in that bundle, though they never go in sales, it’s a good starting point if you want to speed up researching vehicles while keeping distances from higher ranks and battle rating.
