so far its improved the Chieftains Challengers and Type 10/TKX and negatively-ish affected the abrams and leopard 2 so your wrong actually its a positive so far
you messed up half your turns with the regen steering decided to send it round tight corners instead of just stopping and using neutral steering simply to make it look worse or just to show that you cant drive and ravanex’s video is more than enough proof of that
Now explain how you want me to downshift? Because I need to tap S to do that, I can’t comfortably do that while silmuntaneiusly holding W + Direction button. Just try it yourself right now, not that convinient isn’t it? If you want to turn and not accelerate - downshift.
It has positively affected Chieftains, Challengers and Type 10. It has negatively affected T-80s, T-64s, Leopard 2s, M1s, AMX-30, AMX-32 and T-72s. It negatively affected more tanks than it did positively. Therefore it’s net negative.
So turning around tight corners is something I shouldn’t do? What should I do then? I tested neutral steering already and it was slower…
You have to be kidding, literally the only issue is downshift bug where it downshift to neutral from 2nd gear instead of going to 1st. Otherwise the controlability including on sharp fast turns increased.
What I was writing were (in my oppinion) how to fix the current double differential steering, where if you read my second & third point, you would see that you would be able to downshift by using the breaks on your tank, which would cause the automatic transmission to shift down in gear.
Otherwise if you wanted to be able to do a manual downshift (like you can on the current double differential steering) you would then need to use the manual transmission.
first of all it doesnt seem the T-80s or T-72s even have regen steering and the T-64 is bugged with it atm and the AMX’s feel better with it imo and if your gonna start using T-72s T-64s and T-80s all seperate instead of just t series i can say its positively affected the Challenger 1s the Challenger 2s the Challenger 3s the Type 10 the TKX and the TKX (p)
if we dont try make the list longer by adding 3 very similar tanks it positively affects the Challengers the Chieftains the Type 10s and in my opinion the AMX and negatively affects the T-series (which only 1 has and its bugged) the M1s and leopards
idk when your gonna go flying round a corner in a real match anyway but just slow down on tight corners? use a lower gear
At 0:24 you are approaching the corner completely wrong, you always need to start a corner from the outside so in this case the right side of that dirt road. With the current handling it works out but it’s possible that even with that you could be faster with a wider entry because of less speed loss.
0:34 missed the corner completely because going too fast and braking too late. I feel like you are trying to use turning as a “brake” (because that’s how the current handling works) instead of slowing down and then turning. That’s what I meant.
0:54 Maybe you went that wide to keep up your speed since there is space but you can turn much tighter.
1:40 Once again missed the turn, the M1 can easily turn in there
1:50 Just overall very clunky but this could be because of the 1st gear bug, I’ll explain a method later how can it be avoided but ideall it should be fixed.
2:15 You don’t really need to brake there, the M1 is actually a bit drifty in 4th gear
2:25 Seems like first gear bug again and I’m not sure but I have a suspicion that brakes in WT are too strong, that’s why sometimes the tank stops immediately and goes into Neutral
So basically when holding A/D and then pressing S to downshift it simply won’t go from 2nd gear to 1st, it goes instantly to Neutral from 2nd. You can “fix” this by pressing W instantly (while still holding A/D). Then the tank will shift up to 1st and keep turning in the 1st gear. You have to keep holding W too (while also holding A/D). If you let go of W while turning in 1st gear the tank goes to Neutral gear. Doing this will give you a lot more consistent 1st gear turning.
Another big problem is that if you change direction during this it will shift up to 2nd and you have to start all over again.
But it’s not how it is.
And it does feel better to me. A lot more fluid, like each tank got their horsepower doubled. The front of the tank might not change direction that quickly in all cases but it still feels less clunky. I don’t know when you started playing but you are probably using years of muscle memory so just need to get used to a new way of thinking basically.
i just got on dev server to try the abrams and it feels so much nicer not losing all my speed on 1 corner, and the challengers and chieftains are a night and day difference
There is no way you think this seriously. It’s WAY better. On the Live server the T-80BVM actually has a “heavier” steering, with the new one it’s a lot more responsive and it has infinite momentum basically. You don’t even have to care about changing gears or anything, it just goes. Not being able to use 1st gear could be a big issue in tighter spaces but that’s a bug.
I even messed up that turn between the two houses and it still turned in easily.
It would be interesting to try the differential steering on older tanks. Currently, we really haven’t tried it either extremely slow or very fast tanks. Where i could see it maybe having an even bigger effect.
WW2 tanks such as the Churchill tank used the Merrit-Brown triple differential steering system. I feel that it is the very slow tanks, will probably get the largest buff from the differential steering systems, since they are so low speed that they more easily come to a full stop when turning.
The other ones that would also get a large buff very fast tanks, so those don’t loose speed while trying to maneuver around the map, such as in a M18 Hellcat.
This is also without looking at the tanks using electric drive, where the motors should not affect each other.
They have a different system called “Dual Transmission”. All three share the same bug, they can’t use the 1st gear. Otherwise they are working as Gaijin intended, the T-72 and T-64 turning into a boat in the 3rd and 4th gear is a feature not a bug lol As long as you keep it below/above that it handles nicely.
If you use a Planetary Steering tank with the driver assistance thing (you have to hold down the button and use the mouse to steer) it kinda feels like differential steering haha
There are 27 Leopard 2s affected by this change (Not counting PT, 2AV)
There are 12 M1s affected by this change (Not counting XM-1)
There should be 11 AMX-30/32s affected by this change (Counting the Roland and AuF1)
There are 19 T-72 chassis tanks affected by this change (Counting Msta-S, BMPT, T-90s)
There are 15 T-64/T-80 chassis tanks affected by this (Counting Oplot)
There are 4 Type 90s affected by this
That’s a total of 88 (or 77 without AMX-30/32) tanks that are worse off.
There are 7 Chieftains
There are 3 Challenger 1s
There are 8 Challengers 2s
And finally, there are 3 Type 10s in game.
If we assume that the steering changes are beneficial to those, we have 21 tanks affected positively. That’s a ratio of 21:88. If you think that it’s beneficial for AMX-30/32 as well, that’s 32/77.
There’s considerably more tanks affected negatively than positively. It is a net negative
Why would I want to slow down? That’s just giving the potential enemy around the corner more time to react. And even if there is not an enemy there, why would I want to slow down?
Thank you, I’ll go over this the next day, it’s already late.
I started playing WT after leaving WoT. In WoT, the steering system is very close to how the steering changes are implemented on dev. I hated that. I have around 2000-3000h in WoT. I already got enough practice with this style of tank steering. I dislike it. I do not want to wait for the tank to turn, I want to be able to control the turn radius myself and preferably instantaneously. The new steering system lessens the amount of control I have
Why would I want to slowly turn around a corner. That’s going to get me killed for certain. With the current system, you can slide a tank so that the frontal armor actually faces the enemy (while still peeking the corner quickly). With the steering changes this becomes considerably more time consuming and potentially even impossible
Well the dual transmission stuff is basically a cheaper double differential as far as I know but I’m not an expert. Except it doesn’t have neutral turning so in 1st gear you should be able to lock one track and spin the other to turn, at the moment this is impossible because the tank is refusing to use the 1st gear
