Yes, there are plenty of problems to fix, especially the maps being too small and the nerfed stats of certain missiles. The second problem, for me, is that most players don’t know how to dodge ARH missiles. When you have to adopt a top-tier DCS attack and defense style of gameplay, EU players rush in, firing all their missiles at low altitude hoping they hit. Larger maps and new generation ARH missiles could force people to adopt a more defensive gameplay style. Only the R73 is effective in dogfights, given its gimbal limitations. While the Magic 2 can manage dogfights at certain angles, other missiles like the PL5 EII, which also fires very powerfully, or slower missiles like the AIM-9, are also effective. Furthermore, thanks to the AoA mod or manual mode (for those who play sims), you can adjust the missile’s firing angle
But anyway, I say this based on my experience as a sim player. I don’t fly realistic aircraft, but in sims, an AIM 9M remains just as dangerous as an R73 thanks to all the maneuverability modes that allow for more favorable firing angles. Ultimately, it all depends on the aircraft in a dogfight
and I also play Sim. Id rather have ASRAAM than Meteors, because im fed up of not having a usable IR missile on the Typhoon. With more and more getitng MAWS and the IRCCM no longer working. Aim-9M is just a waste of a pylon
Data “opinions” show that new missiles will be added to 4.5 gen countries that don’t have 5th gen other than f35. So USA and Russia will get 5th gen planes while the rest get new missiles. (China was not included with leaked 5th gen and already has the pl15 in files.)
I’m not crazy then I was in dogfights earlier with my j11b firing firing off missiles in the dogfight and just watching them get flared off, by one or two flares with no cut on the afterburner and was loosing my mind.
I have an accepted report for Aim-9M IRCCM not working in front aspect, which has never worked. But since the last major update Ive found they no longer work in rear-aspect either and in side aspect they sometimes work but also will just random decide that a tree or a cloud is a better target.
Im fairly certain at this point Aim-9Ls are better missiles
I knew it people were calling me crazy and I knew I wasn’t. I was loosing my mind loosing fight after fight because the missile wouldn’t stick to them which is frustrating as a j11 can’t dogfight with the gripen or other small aircraft I get one pull with a missile shot to decide it and its so frustrating when I loose that to one flare
IRL, they should be practically impossible to flare. Unless you have something like BOL. Which is why Britain went with the philosophy of “Kill target before they can even fire” with the ASRAAM.
There are some other options, like special flares, but 99% of the time. If an IIR is fired correctly, its probably hitting the target.
IRCCM, like Aim-9M should be waaaaay harder to defeat and Aim-9L should be unflarable if the target is on reheat. But Alas Gaijin is Gaijin. So doubt IIR missiles will be strong in terms of seeker performance, only in kinematics
If the rumours are true, new missiles should be added specifically for nations that won’t compete directly and in par with main ones when comes to 5th-generation aircraft combat, it is, proper missiles to compete against F-22, F-35, its variations, Su-57 and J-20.
Yeah, seeing how even the current IRCCM missiles seem to get 1 flared when shot from rear aspect (especially after the latest major update) I’m sure they will butcher the next gen IIR missiles.
Like I don’t think they should be impossible to flare or near impossible, but they should at least require some effort.
some air craft might be locked to using next gen missiles only though.
Like for example, idk if j-20 can use the old pl-12s, its only been seen with pl-15s.
But, other 5th gens, like f-22, or su-57, can use old missiles, like aim 120 c/d/aim 9m and r-77-1/r-74m respectively.
