As it currently stands, switching between radar modes consists of cycling through all the modes available. With the introduction of ground radar and potentially more modes in the future, this can problematic within combat, what would be most useful, is the ability to immediately select the desired mode via a keybind.
Current radar modes on the Typhoon for example are:
TWS
SRC
SRC PDV HDN
TWS GMTI
SRC PD
What I would propose is the ability to set a keybind to each radar mode available.
In addition to this, I would propose the ability to set a keybind to imediately swap to your desired ACM mode (radar, ACM, HMD)
But the current cyclical keybind should remain as is for those that have limited keybinds available or for those who dont want to loads of keybinds
Absolutely. Trying to cycle through about a billion radar modes for 2 or 3 useful ones is quite annoying. Game start radar selection was a great addition, why not add some more specific ones too
OR, like modern US aircraft often have ( I know from the Hornet), have additionally also a βmodeβ toggle, switching between A/A and A/G modes.
Could even be simplified: If switching to an A/G weapons, switch Radar to A/G mode (if applicable), with submodes eselectable or togglable. And similarly for A/A stores.
We could also make it so we can set in options the order of the modes kn cyclic switching and also be able to remove some modes from ever coming up when switching
In that case having more A-G modes, like mapping functions, would be possible. With weather becoming even a bigger problem, having a real beam mapping or high resolution mapping would make a interesting experience when flying at low altitude, as no SPAA with a radar has issues dealing with planes in bad weather, specially in sim.
Funny enough thereβs already airborne search radars with a A-G mode.
