Was playing my Churchill III and was pleasently suprised with single 45mm APHE round from a Yak-9 barging its way into my tanks roof, and slightly whispering at my ammo. And having all my rounds explode throwing my turret across the map, This has now happened more than i can count. So ima say it these new 45mm rounds are damn powerful, like a small nuke. With the current APHE System making all rounds explose with equal destructive force across the whole vehicle this round is very stupid to use and face -_-
They practically are as they do hold enough explosive to take out the wing of a bomber out. I haven’t played Churchill tier for a while although my question being is there that many Yak 9s? Also its not like the german 50mm PZGR.39 doesn’t do the exact same but more pen.
There’s like 3 every match
shit has more explosive in it than a damn tank round
But the german 50mm cannon isn’t found on a fighter, let alone a small, fast, and agile one.
True but Germans do have 30mm which does similar pen but less explosive, much faster fire rate and a lot more common, seen on many FW190s and Me262 (I understand they are less likely to be seen by Churchills) and they will do good damage as well especially I play China for the respective tier and spending most of my time in light tanks such as Obj211, PT76 and hellcat it is not fun either.
I’ve been absolutely battered in 3.7 by Yak-9s and their 45mm AP rounds.Sherman and Paz IV have absolutely no protection against them, especially on the top and sides. And don’t even get me started on the insane amount of explosive they pack. I’ve never seen anything like it from the German aircraft with similar armament. The 50mm rounds they fire are practically solid steel.
The issue isn’t the power of the gun, it’s the accessibility. Any idiot can fly a Yak9.
Generally you need more talent to fly and position the Me410, Bf110, Do335 etc. to use their cannons effectively which most players simply don’t have. I’ve played a few matches where a player in the Brittish premium F4F killed about 18 tanks and a few planes over the course three games using 50 cals (my point being that most planes have the power to be devastating when flown with a bit of gusto).
Personally think we just learn to live with it, if we raise the BR it becomes useless as a fighter. If we nerf the belts we set a bad precedent for all planes with armour piercing belts.
If anything I’m hoping the German cannon ammunition gets an overhaul because I’m not aware of the 37mm, 50mm or 75mm aircraft cannons being this effective in the past.
Well, we have seperate brs for a reason, also give it the german AP belt treatment, and dont give it a PURE APHE maybe?
No Fw190 gets the 30mm MK103s on an accurate mount.
Yeah but it’s balanced for Air Battles, this belt has no notable effect on Air engagements.
Gaijin hasn’t worked out separate BRs for ground RB either.
German 30mm guns still don’t have their APHE rounds, which were a thing IRL. Their HVAP round is kind of waste due to usual APCR damage and angle penetration. AP-I is reasonable, though you still often can’t spray enough into a tank to kill that many crew members as you could with an APHE.
Ammo is not the only problem. The planes carrying them are mostly clumsy heavy fighters, which can’t dive at the target in just any occasion and they are far more easier targets for both AA and enemy planes. Fw 190s with 30mm come at 5.0 where sides and roofs are at least a bit thicker.
Same pen as NS-45 though, although I do see them getting weaker due to the potential APHE changes.
Yak-9K, Yak-9UT, TIS MA, Pe-8 and Wyvern going up one BR step, but only in GROUND Realistic.

Doesn’t really matter, i brought the 9k to 5.7, got uptiered to 6.3 and it still pop tiger and panther roof easily.
I agree, there’s no BR solution that isn’t simply moving the problem.
I thinking AP belts are just going to need a SP cost tax.
This shouldn’t have been added. 5 yaks within 5 minutes is the standard. all take 0 effort to fly. Perfect dispersion even when overheating, and to top it all off one singular shot into the firefly’s engine is a one shot. What a joke.
