NDI (Norwegian, Danish & Icelandic) Techtree - What could it look like and why it should be added

NORWAY - DENMARK - ICELAND

INTRODUCTION

This is an idea i have for a new nation for War Thunder wich includes Norway, Denmark and Iceland. There are plenty of vehicles from these three nations to create a new nation instead of introducing new subtrees, and both Air and Ground will do just fine here, with the strongest part of them being the naval branches, as these are after all so-called “Seafaring nations” with long traditions at sea. Below i am going to show you folders describing each tech tree with images of them.

Splitting up tech trees, and max having one to two subtrees for the nations would be the absolute best thing to do. Not only would it make the grind easier, or solve the 5 lines problem that we currently have, but it would give so much more content to the game. New tech tree vehicles, premiums, event vehicles, battle passes, other history events. This would be a benefit both to players and the developers of the game. Another positive thing about this would be that players have a wider variety of nations to choose from, each wich requires a different playstyle. And if you, for example were a fan of Swedish vehicles, you won’t have to grind through a ton of other vehicles, planes or vessels to get to them. It is as they said at the beginning of the 20th century in the Norwegian Navy, it is better to be many small than to be few and big!

There are as i said plenty of vehicles form all three of those nations, especially naval vessels wich would make wide and unique branches, as a fact, most of the vessels are of own domestic designs! And considering that Sweden and Finland are in the exact same situation here, there would not be enough space to merge everything in one tech tree. It’s certainly possible but it would only include a small fraction of the vessels that could be added from these nations, yes even the unique and special ones that would be awesome to see.

But, judging from how much longer and greater connection Norway, Denmark and Iceland have had together, I believe that these three are a much better combination, as these have an extensive history that extends over hundreds of years. This is a very long story that I can not include here, but in summary it happened a lot over the years, and one was differently United but the Norwegian-Danish union actually spread over a period of 434 years ( 1380 to 1814). This is something that has greatly changed the culture and language of both countries to what it is today, to a much greater extent than what Sweden has. And Iceland has for an even longer period been part of both the Norwegian kingdom and the Danish and has a very deep connection to these countries.

If this techtree were to one day be implemented, there are a couple scenarios i could think of that would happen. It would have to be named Norway, and be introduced as a Norwegian techtree to at a later point not so long after have Fenmark introcuced as the major subtree under this nation. This would be as so far Norway is the biggest part of the combined NDI trees.

Note that the trees are to show the potential, so the layout and
branches are not perfect and are still being worked on as you read this

GROUND FORCES

Spoiler

This is the ground forces techtree that i have made, i have tried my best to compare the vehicles with those in-game for the placements and battlerates. The majority of these vehicles are either built by the respective nations or modified, but it also features unmodified. It consists of ca 111 vehicles wich of Norway has the majority.

AIR FORCES

Spoiler

In the early days of Norway and Denmark’s air forces, they were building and designing their own planes, they also license produced planes up until the breakout of ww2. Some of these are qualified to be included in the techtree. In later years there has been developed missiles, bombs, various installations and modifications for a wide number of planes, even participated in the development of F16/F35’s. These nations were also the first export customers (“Operators”) of many planes of the military aid. This tree would bring some nice stuff

NAVAL BLUEWATER

Spoiler

These nations did never really operate a large amount of battleships, this due to a number of reasons such as cost, required manpower and need. Norway did for example decide to have a navy consisting of many small vessel (anti invasion fleet) instead of few but big vessels, wich resulted in many smaller destroyers and various gun and torpedoboats being built instead, But they operated some coastal battleships. Denmark used mostly cruisers and coastal battleships, and no destroyers. This tree will be a very strong part of this series, due to the vessels mostly being unique, both in terms of construction or amament.

NAVAL COASTAL

Spoiler

This branch would by far be the strongest and best part of this series, with a very large amount of domestic designed and built vessels in addition to a wide variety of domestic developed weapons and mofided stuff. and the best part of it all, they are very different. everyting from powerful gunboats and small and nifty torpedoboats, to whalers armed to the teeth or captured German vessels, to stealth battleships and history’s 2nd fastest naval vessel! enough content to last for years and years.

NOTE This tree is just half finished! the old one were just such a mess i had to use this

HANGAR MUSIC

Spoiler

What is a techtree without hangar music, every tree needs their one characteristic song!

CONCLUSION

Spoiler

I am not saying this should be the next nation to wartunder, neither the one after that, but that it should be seriously considered as an option instead of introducing new sub techtrees.

There is a lot of potential nations that could be added to war thunder, and i believe this could be one of them

  • Canadian techtree
  • Yugoslavian techtree
  • Latin American techtree
  • Polish techtree
  • Korean techtree
  • Multiple combinations from the middle east
  • Norwegian techtree
  • Egyptian techtree
  • Spanish techtree

Yeah, but Germany have the option for twice as many leos ;)

As cool as it would be, it would be majority (at least top tier) copy pasta, it’s most likely going to Sweden, as it’s practically going to turn into the Nordic tree.

Either way Sweden will eventually receive an F-16 😈

Is it the F-16/35 you are thinking about?

F-16, Sweden operates F-35’s anyway. F-16 was a venture option for the JAS39 project, which decided to keep the project based fully out of Sweden.

When did that happen?

Are you thinking about air or ground (or overall)?

Ground mostly. Air would be some.

Sorry, I’m thinking NATO joint ops.

Tier 7-8 in both ground and air should not be that bad actually

I haven’t had time to update the aviation techtree yet, but i am going to separate them ad add the most modified/unique blocks to the tree.

For ground vehicles most of them are modified, like the Danish Leopard 2A5DK, Oerlicon skyranger and the Norwegian CV9030’s, the upcoming 2A8nor. Nasams HML is unique as it consists of some Norwegian developed stuff (Don’t remember on top of my head lol) and the ACSV G5 is as well, as it is our own design, with among other things the Norwegian developed Kongsberg protector RWS RS4 and the Danish developed radarsystem (plus a few other things) :)

I have done a larger update of the Ground forces techtree, this time compared each vehicle better with the ones in games. I have also tried to keep the techtree lines as unique as possible and less variants with minor changes. There is also new vehicles added.

Techtree suggestion
NDI - Ground Forces Techtree (106 Vehicles)

Large update on the ground forces techtree

-The tree will be updated more times, and some vehicles will be removed and some new will be added.
-Note that this is to show potential, if the tree would be implemented, it would be different.

INTRODUCTION TO THE UPDATE
This is not about having the most vehicles in the techtree, this is to show the potential to the tree and if this were to be introduced, it would be added in a smaller scale to begin with. Ive been working a long time to find all these new vehicles and its variants, and there are many yet to be discovered, and some are even in development. I hope this update gives you another better view over the idea of a Norwegian and Danish techtree.

CHANGES TO THE LAYOUT
A 5th line has been added to the tree, now the two first lines are primarily for Light tanks, and the 3rd and 4th line are for Medium tanks and Tank destroyers with the 5th line reserved for anti air vehicles. This was done to both improve the layout and to make space for the light tanks from rank 5 and above.

THE VEHICLES
What i have done in this update, has been to remove the vehicles that doesn’t have enough firepower to be used properly or that has mechanics that don’t fit in the game. I have also tried to compare the vehicles better with those added in-game already and changed the tree for every update. The vehicles i have been adding now, are everything from modified, self developed or partially developed like those vehicles from Kongsberg D&A that has our domestically developed turrets and weaponstations, and other vehicles such as the improvised vehicles from the invasion in 1940 and various prototypes. Trialed vehicles has also been added, with some being event vehicles and some implemented in the techtree.
