Naval needs a rebalancing of BRs again to separate battleships and cruisers

I should not fight battleships with cruisers.
I shouldn’t even see battleships in any type of light or heavy cruiser. I can’t do anything. It’s the equivalent of a light cruiser fighting 3.3 coastal ships.

Yeh, its painful! Cruiser sweet spot is 5.3.
5.7 is okay’ish, and 6.0 is just suffering. I gave up trying to spade all my 6.0 cruisers.

Gaijin seem unwilling to do anything about it at the moment unfortunately.

Actually there are nothing they ‘can’ do.
BR seperation is just daydreaming of players which is not possible in game.
There are proposal for pre-dreadnought even in forum, but the problem that late pre-dreadnought that fits War Thunder timeline actually has better armor than early dreadnoughts are overlooked by many.

Maybe things could be done like decompressing capital ships to make 6.0 cruiser not meet 14~16’’ super dreadnought is possible, but even in that case, they will still meet dreadnoughts, which most of them compell hard fight for cruisers.

Deompression would help some, not only cruisers but some early dreadnoughts would also benefit from that.

There’s lots of things that could be done, if the whole BR system would be looked at as a whole and there was will to set some hard caps in the matchmaker for example.

But again, if the maps were bigger, and spawns not so cramped and open so you could actually get some speed and/or cover once you spawn in, that would also help.

The thing is even the cruisers themselves have not good balance between each other. Just look at Helena or Pola as an example

You can just spam them to death with HE quite easilly, especially on US cruisers like Brooklyn,Atlanta or Helena. They die to fire and repairing as it recrews the AA. Or if they have torpedoes like japanese long lances or even german G7a with range mod, then send em and yeet em.

well, if you disregard the US and Soviet 6.0 shellspam-cruisers I think that mostly 5.7 are quite okay BR for cruisers, when you are not uptiered ofc :-)

Well I would argue Pola and Hipper at 5.7 are quite strong (with Pola being the strongest) but yes the gap compared to stuff like Helena is not that great

Yes, they are strong, but I dont think the gap between them and many of other 5.7 are so bad tbh. It kinda depends heavily if you get focused or not, which ofc goes for basically every ship.
And I don’t think any of them deserves 6.0 BR either, as it currently is.

I’ve heard this argument about not being able to do anything a lot, but I’ve never found it to be true. No, you probably won’t be able to get a magazine detonation, but there is plenty you can do on the offensive and defensive side.

On offense, try To disable systems you can hit like the bridge, propellers, and rudders. If you have fast firing guns, use he to set fires. You can also disable turrets from the sides and especially secondary turrets.

On the defensive side, maneuver. Especially in a light cruiser, you will have a big advantage. Granted, it isn’t as good now with almost instant targeting solutions, but you can still easily dodge shells. This is by far the biggest mistake I see. Players expect to just sail in a straight line broadside to a battleship and not get clobbered. Speed up, and slow down as well. It’s not just good for torpedoes, but also for dodging shells while you keep hitting with yours. The speed adjustment is a known quantity for you, because you know what it is going to be. For your opponent he has to guess if you’ve just thrown it into reverse or stopped and gone forward again.

Use your torpedoes even if they can’t kill a ship. It will be distracting, and you’ll get hits, because many battleship players think they are invincible and travel straight at constant speeds.

Provide AA for a bigger ship with poor AA. Cap. Flank and start hammering things from a different angle. Your target can’t aim two directions at once.

There will never be suffecient seperation between most cruisers and the early battlecruisers for it to ever have suffecient impact. But some mitigation is possible. Having 90% of light and heavy cruisers at 5.3 or 5.7 is just insane (and imo, worse on balance than them facing the BB/BCs) , as you have an extremely broad range of performance within such a tiny set of BRs. So spacing them out greater would help a lot with the much weaker light cruisers and some of the heavy cruisers from seeing heavier classes of ships. Wouldn’t take much, maybe 0.7-1.0 of extra BR to space the cruisers out. Then the battleships/battlecruisers need more space. The very earliest ships, ships like HMS Invicible, Should never ever be seeing ships like Scharnhorst or Amagi. So moving the upper most BB/BCs up even just 0.3-0.7 BRs would help greatly and then space those below out a little more where needed.

With that I think naval would be fairly solid for an early decompress, at least until it can be fully and completely be decompressed, but that would likely need to come with a total and complete decompress of both air and ground.
