Naval Missile Thunder - General Discussion

Yes missile ships against unarmored non missile ships is a problem, especially in long range maps like Franz Josef Island where aiming with destroyer calibre guns becomes too much of a hassle.

I’ve had a fair bit of fun doing missile duels with Adams against Bravy though, and a big part of that is because both ships can defend themselves against missiles by intercepting them.
This is why I want to have missile ships separated from artillery ships, so people have the choice to play a tailored gamemode instead of a hodgepodge of a game.

I think this will only be possible after enough missile ships are added so that each nation can be included (that would be County/Perth, Amatsukaze, Impavido, and T47) because if they were to separate it now, you’d only have 3 DDGs fighting each other.

I think that instead of jumping to anti ship missiles we should start with guided torpedoes, specially because high tier coastal is nearly useless against even reserve bluewater, they would equalize them a bit.

Also guided torps still require some level of aiming, as they only begin guidance some 5km away from a target, travel quite slowly, and their warheads are not that big. Some exceptions being soviet wire guided torpedoes but those would still require line of sight for their whole travel. Coastal ships also carry a maximum of four so it would not result in spam like if they were mounted on japanese DDs

The post second world war British, Japanese & French would like to know your location.

Examples of the heavy bluewater ships of the coastal tech trees armed with ASW torpedoes.

British:

• Type 12 ASW Frigate HMS Blackpool F77, 12× Mk. 20 Bidders (six per side)

Japanese:

• Ayanami class Destroyer 1958 JDS Ayanami DD-103, 8× Type 54 (four in the Torpedo mount, four reloads)

France:

• E50 Frigates Le Corse & Le Brestois, 24× L6 (six per side, plus reloads)

Honestly, even then it would not be that strong, 40kph speeds and diminute warheads would make it easy to avoid for destroyers and cruisers, and any heavy old tub battleship can just tank it. Most current and future coastal ships still can only carry so many heavy anti-surface guided torps. They would only become a problem if submarines are ever added, but then the lightweight ASW torps would keep those in check

Submarines can just stay out of their detection range

I just played my first game against a Lütjens, and I have never seen such bullshit at 5.3. It had 12 kills before a single other ship had 2. It could stay behind cover and 1-shot literally everything, and nothing could counter it. What the fuck is this doing at 5.3 where it can face 4.3 players who are completely helpless against it? It’s like adding the BMPT at 10.0 and we all know where that ended up.

That’s honestly all it can do; hide behind terrain.

Lütjens and Forrest Sherman do not take incoming fire very well as aiming below any of the gun turrets will likely instantly kill 'em.

They’re huge for destroyers with the addition of poor maneuverability.

In 5.3 they also have to see the queens of the bracket: the British cruisers which can face tank missiles and only lose two to three crew. The ammo is almost completely impossible to snipe as well.

All I can suggest is to keep an eye out for that smoke trail their missiles leave. Then call your team’s attention to them. I have used the vessels you are pointing out and let me tell you, they don’t last long once somebody gets them targeted.

Make them a priority target. Not just for you, but your entire team. I can’t recall how many planes I’ve taken down with them and then get hate mail.

Best of luck to you out there. o7

I’m still not convinced it’s at the right BR, but I appreciate the responses and accept that maybe it’s just a hard ship to balance, as most glass cannons tend to be.
