Naval ammoracks

Hello, I have a question about naval ammoracks:

As a ground forces player, I always remove the maximum number of shells possible on each ship to reduce the probability and damage of an ammorack explosion. However, it’s a tricky balance to avoid running out of ammunition during battles.

Yet, whenever I check in the test field using the X-ray view (like on tanks), the ammoracks still appear full. Does this mean the damage model does not account for my ammunition reduction, or is it just a visual issue?

Thank you.

It depends.

Hello, I believe this works exactly how it does in ground, where the less ammo you take, the less of the racks/magazines/shell rooms are filled up as far as the game is concerned. I always thought it didn’t for the same reason you have noted, but on the old wiki it does explain that in naval they work the same as ground(Ammo racks - War Thunder Wiki). The visual issue you are referring to is the same on nearly every ship ive played, but i think it is just a visual issue of them not being modelled as independantly, as when you use all of your ammunition the shells do dissapear and the racks will eventually visually appear completely empty. There are a few exceptions, for example on the Tiger here:

you can see that the foward 3" magazine is actually completely empty, despite me still having 600 shells on board.
Here:

You can see that now all the rounds aboard have been fired, all magazines are completely empty.

There is always the potential that the wiki is incorrect, and it will always act like the magazine is completely full no matter how many shells are in in until it is empty, and only when it is empty it becomes inert.

Thank you guys.

It is why I pinged some officials to get an answer about differences between X-ray/damage model (because they spoke about it concerning turret basket earlier today)

Yeah, I would hope the same is true here.

Not always. There are some “bugged” ships, but it seems that it’s “up to the discretion of the devs” whether it’s really a bug or not.

That’s insane!

Edit : the first time I played my Dunkerque, I looked at the armor in hangar and say to myself “nice the ammoracks are armored, unlike other French’ BB” and go into battle…Less than 1 min after spawn, I got ammoracked (first or second salvo) then I used a back up and got ammoracked again by the same Sharnhorst…

Dunkerque is a fraud - it seems to have massive issues with it’s damage model, both ammo (losing all fire from 1 turret with no apparent damage is common) and flotation - it’ll often sink at 30% left :(
