Nakajima Kikka Prototype

thought this was in the game at one point.

Bomber not attacker.

Read my post, already answered your question there.

well I did it’s just I remember seeing it a while ago maybe I mistook something else for it.

Small correction, as a special attack aircraft, the Kikka was considered for both kamikaze attacks and conventional bombing attacks on ships at high speed.

from JP Wikipedia and sensha blogspot.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it not given a designation (ex, M6A1 Seiran) because it was intended for “specialized” limited use? Or did it not get a designation because it was never accepted into service?

Most often, the incorrect designation J9Y/J9N/J10N is given, which is incorrect because the Japanese symbol J referred to naval land-based fighters. The correct designation of the aircraft is M7N or M8N, but it is very rarely used. The Japanese themselves simply use the name Kikka.

Where did you find this information? I have never seen anything pertaining to M7N or M8N, only the J9Y and such.

On Japanese Wikipedia. Even without it, you can guess that since it is a special attack aircraft (M), it is next after the M6A1, so it should have the designation M7N or M8N. According to the M8N version, it was supposed to be the next after the missile attack glider which was to receive the M7(?) symbol

This is what he writes on the Japanese wiki

This is the name I got from a historical unit localization mod for the current in-game Kikka.

I would not advice fully trusting Sensha, the person who wrote it, has an infamous reputation. Yeah…

Localization mods are almost always the best, putting the best or closest to what the name was likely, compared to what the snail tends to name things.

shame it does’t have guns but whatever. +1 from me.

The lack of weapons in the prototype is a big plus. Due to the fact that it does not have 30mm cannons and has weaker engines, its BR will be much lower than Kikka from the game

Hey Grzegames, do you know if Japan were designing or conceptualizing any carrier-based jet aircraft during the 2nd world war?

If you count the I-400 class ships, that’s how they designed them. If it’s an ordinary aircraft carrier, then no.
It was planned to create variants of the Kikka and Ohka aircraft that were to be launched from the catapult of I-400 class ships. Nothing was planned for regular aircraft carriers for a few reasons.

You’re thinking of MaiWaffentrager. She didn’t write it. QAZDFA did, and he’s a very reputable Japanese aviation historian

I’ve been going through a rework of Japan for my mod (for a second time) and for it I’m also making a Japanese localization package, so here is the name done correctly assuming that the M7N designation is correct, which seems more likely because the Fujihana never left the drawing board.

This comes out to Nakajima Aircraft | Experimental Kikka Kai Model 21 Ko | M7N1-J Ko.

Considering the ingame one has new engines and had guns that the real Kikka never had, this is a teensy little bit of guesstimation to get the 21型甲 (Model 21 Ko) part. The -J part in M7N1-J is because the guns and classification ingame make it a jet fighter, but because it was classed as a special attacker and this would be a fighter conversion, it becomes M7N1-J instead of M7N1. This is the same reason that the N1K2 has a -J.
