Nakajima C6N1-S / 20mm cannon (彩雲一一型改造夜戦)
The Nakajima C6N1-S is a Japanese night fighter, built in April 1945. About 6 copies were built, five with 20mm cannons and one with a 30mm cannon. This suggestion is about a lesser-known version with 20 mm cannons.
History
At the beginning of 1945, the Japanese anti-aircraft defense Tokyo began to run out of night fighters, so the 302nd Naval Aviation Squadron decided to convert the Navy’s fastest aircraft, the C6N1, into a new night fighter. At this point in the war, the C6N1 planes were able to escape American fighters, so it was considered a good choice. It was decided that the observer station would be removed from the center of the cockpit and two Type 99 Model 1 cannons would be mounted in its place at a 65-degree angle upwards. In April, three prototype C6N1-S aircraft were built, and then two more copies were made. During the tests, the aircraft showed that it did not lose its flight capabilities, because the two Type 99 cannons weighed almost as much as the observer with equipment. It was then decided to replace the Type 99 model 1 cannons with the Model 2. Nakajima C6N1-S planes with Type 99 cannons took part in combat operations until the end of the war, and nothing is known if they had any successes. After the Japanese surrender, one of the C6N1-S was captured by the Americans, who tested it, and in 1949 it was handed over to the Park Ridge National Aviation Museum, where it can be seen to this day.

Construction description
The Nakajima C6N1-S aircraft was a low-wing aircraft with an all-metal structure. The fuselage housed the cabin of a three-person crew: pilot, observer and gunner-radiotelegraphist, with a long, glazed cover. Landing gear of the aircraft retracted in flight. In the cockpit, in the place of the observer, two Type 99 cannons were mounted, chambered for 60-round drum magazines. Holes have been cut in the glazing above the plots. the barrels of the cannons did not protrude beyond the cockpit, so from the outside the plane looked like an ordinary C6N1. On top of the windshield there was a sight for the pilot.

Summary
The Nakajima C6N1-S with Type 99 cannons is an interesting aircraft for Japan in War Thunder. It is an interesting fighter that will be able to easily intercept enemy bombers. I encourage you to discuss in the comments and to share your own knowledge on this subject.
Finally, I apologize for the linguistic and logical errors because unfortunately English is not my main language and I had to use google translator.

Oh yes, please; I’d love to see the C6N pop up in the game eventually. Take my absolute +1!

A minor correction: Park Ridge was only a storage facility for aircraft to be transferred to the National Aviation Museum in DC, which later became the National Air and Space Museum (NASM). However, when the Korean War began, all the aircraft had to vacate or be scrapped (sadly, we lost a lot of neat aircraft due to that, including one of the J8M1 prototypes, among others).

Afterwards, all the surviving aircraft were transferred to “Silver Hill,” officially the Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration, and Storage Facility, where they remain. This included aircraft such as the C6N-1S, P1Y1, G4M3 (fore and aft fuselage), B7A1, J5N1 (though they seem to have misplaced the airframe and only have the tail and a wing), Kikka (both the allied Frankenstein and the other prototype), B6N2, N1K Kyofu, Ju 388, Ta 152H-0, Ho 229, BV-155 V2, XP-56, XFY1, etc etc.

The Saiun is a very beautiful plane, I’d love to have this version in the game for bomber hunting.

Now we just need to see the 30 mm version (soon)

Both fighters based on the C6N1-S with 20 mm and 30 mm cannons will be great in simulation battles, as a rule, enemy planes are afraid of being attacked from above and behind, and no one looks below them. They will also be good in realistic battles because it is a very fast plane, so it will have no problem catching up with enemy bombers.

Unfortunately, it was against Gaijin policy

a pity

I’ll come up with something better

Well given current state of japanese 30mms the 20mm would be better.
