The Volat V1 Anti-Tank on display.

  • Description :
    • The Volat V1 Tank Destroyer, MZKT-419010016 Volat V1, Volat V1 Anti-tank, or ‘Giant’ is a tank destroyer variant of the Volat V1 4x4 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) developed by the Minsk Wheeled Tractor Plant (MZKT) of Belarus. The Volat V1 is one of the first modern indigenous developed APC’s of Belarus’s defense industry, first developed in the early-2010’s to provide the Armed Forces of Belarus a multi-mission platform, capable of adopting different equipment as doctrine dictates based on the Ministry of Defense’s requirements. I’m 2016, the first APC prototype was unveiled at Eurosatory and in 2017, multiple other variants were created such as an internal security variant, medical variant, armed reconnaissance variant, and others. One variant was equipped with anti-tank capabilities which represented the tank destroyer variant. This vehicle, labeled the MZKT-419010016 Volat V1, features a retractable/rotatable JSC SRPC-designed Shershen-M (‘Shershen’ is Belarusian for ‘Hornet’) Quad Anti-Tank Guided Missile Launcher (ATGM) that’s capable of firing a variety of missiles from 107mm, 130mm, and 152mm diameters. These are the laser beam riding RK-3, RK-2S/RK-2OF, and P-2B ATGM’s capable of producing a high explosive-fragmentation effect or equipped with a Tandem-HEAT charge to penetrate ERA or NERA at varying levels. This allows the Shershen-M platform to adopt different missiles for different missions or if limited on ammunition, can swap rapidly between types of missiles with little adaptation for the turret. All the missiles and the Shershen itself are a further development of the Ukrainian Skif and Korsar ATGM systems. To launch the missiles, a Electro-optical sighting system with a 3rd-generation thermal camera and laser rangefinder are installed on the roof next to the Shershen-M system with the capability to extend great heights to allow for long distance or over obstacle targeting and reconnaissance. The Shershen-M system is integrated on the Volat V1 4x4 APC which is equipped with a 215hp YaMZ-53452 Turbocharged Diesel Engine capable of high speeds as well as powering critical electronics. In terms of protection, the Volat V1 features GOST R 50963-96 B4 ballistic protection or the equivalent of STANAG 4569 Level 2 to protect the 3-person crew, the Gunner, Commander, and Driver from small caliber weapons, shrapnel, and some mines/IED’s. Currently, it is unknown if the Volat V1 or any of its variants will be fully adopted for the Belarusian Army, it has only been seen during military parades since 2017. No other nation uses the Volat V1.

  • In-game :
    • The Volat V1 Anti-Tank is a very unique vehicle due its highly unusual extendable optical sight as well as launcher. Not to mention it has a very wide assortment of ATGM’s it could equip making this vehicle particularly effective at shooting over hills or obstacles while using its extendable optical sight. In terms of weaponry, this vehicle can be equipped with three different missiles with different diameters at the same time. Taking this into consideration, implementing the Volat V1 TD with the ability to create presets like how aircraft can would be particularly beneficial since it can equip both Tandem-HEAT or HE-FRAG missiles at the same time for different missions. For gameplay, this vehicle can operate similarly to missile-guided tank destroyers we have in-game with the optical sight not extended or extending it, allowing for a wide range of additional options. With the sight extended, the vehicle is very limited in maneuverability due to the sensitivity of the extending mechanism.

It’d be fun if it had the full selection of all missile types and sizes! +1
