I’d like to start by saying that I have been playing WarThunder off and on for over 10 years, I’ve especially become more invested in the past year or so.
First and foremost I think there is a serious issue in the game modes, it feels like there really isn’t anything to do outside of grind for the next vehicle.
I know tons of people are yearning for new interesting game modes especially in a game as detailed as warthunder.
Here are some of my suggestions:
- Actual historical battles (i.e battle of the bulge) If I’m not wrong we used to have these and they made for a way more immersive experience than the domination slop we have now.
- Class specific battles: We have over 3000 vehicles there is no reason we can’t have a heavy tank only game mode or light tank game mode.
- Rethink the ticket system: If you want to have ticketed game modes decreasing the amount of people that can spawn decreases the chance for comebacks. If you play a game like battlefield or COD It would be practically impossible to win any game if half of your team was unable to spawn after the first gunfight.
- Possibly implement a ranked mode: For players that have completed a Tech tree or want to prove they are #1 in the world in a certain vehicle a GOOD ranked mode could be the answer.
- Weapon specific modes: I personally am not a huge fan of top tier air rb because it requires a very different set of skills than the lower tiers. A game mode that limits munitions to guns only could be interesting for top tier.
- Custom battles: lots of people play games just to hang out or mess around. Allow the players to make their own game modes. This not only will expand the player base but grow different communities within the game.
I know that was wordy but I’m not quite done.
I think the dream and eventual end point that the devs want to get to is a battlefield style escalation game mode. I think they eventually want to have tanks, planes, naval, and infantry in one large scale battle, and for this I have a proposition.
A while ago I played a game called foxhole, and I didn’t enjoy it too much but there are some concepts from that game that could fit very well into a large scale battle within warthunder.
The supply system from that game interested me the most, we could have players making supplies for the front lines and then drive caravans to them with the protection of players in planes or tanks, or as the battle goes on the BR level increases. Something like this would keep me playing for much longer and I would be much more interested in the outcome of games overall.
All this to say there is tons of untapped potential in this game I think a serious focus on game modes could revive the game and the community.
