My input on the future of the Vickers Falcon

Let me preface this by saying “I dont mind the apds belt being removed” after all i have literally penned the front of tiger 2 turrets with it albeit i aggree that is should go down to 8.0 without the apds belts.

However I am concerned about the addition of a radar in the future update as i quite honestly have no idea how this would even be implemented in a physical and historical sense which I will layout seperately below.

  • Physically
There is just simply no room to add a radar as it was never developed with any provision to do so. I will level with the argument that you could probably fit the marksman radar dish on the rear part of the roof but the dish/antenna is only 1 part of the system, I fail to see where any of the associated electronic equipment would go such as the computers and how it would even be powered as most spaa tank conversions have entirely seperate engines to power such systems. The only option I could see that would fit phisically would be a simple irst tracking system but even still the associated electronics and the era this vehicle was developed, which brings me onto

  • Historcal
This is a development from the early 1970’s even the chieftain marksman didnt come about till the late 1980’s to add a radarsystem to the Falcon would be entirely unrealistic given that radar systems had only just began getting into the miniaturization phase.
even the towed rapier missile system that entered service in the same era (early 1970’s) needed significant ground power to be used.

  • conclusion/proposals

  1. The only realistic option i see is to give the Falcon the ability to deploy a towed/ground based radar to deploy or maybe even give it a towed rapier system to deploy much like how the toptier multivehicle spaa work.
I could see this as a good option since the og Rapier system only uses 2 missiles and would be static and would work well enough to be kept a BR of 8.3 and imo Rapiers are quite easy to defeat (though im not sure about their early variants performance)

  2. Forgo adding the radar and take the BR back down to 8.0 with a period of review to allow for ajustments down to 7.7 if need be. Afterall the British tech tree already has viable spaa at that BR with the Chieftain Marksman (8.3) and the ZA-35 (8.7) the latter being a higher tier and lacking apds belts too(which it doesnt need)

I would encourage discussion on this topic from the developers and community on this.
I fondly believe the 8.0 BR bracket in Ground Realistic Battles is where WarThunder shines and has the best gameplay, atleast in my personal opinion.

That is all and thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Thanks in advance.

that bulge in the front of the turret is the space thats required for the ammunition feed systems when the guns are at their max elevation, which is also not modelled in the game so if we belive in magic it can go there

The bulge is for the radar not the ammo feed

It is literally shown above

I would appreciate seing any documentation on this radar system rather than just pictures if thats at all possible.

i genuinely cant imagine something in the early 70’s being that small beyond concept art
(but il admit that i may have been mistaken about the bulge being for the ammo feed)

The future of the Falcon is to get a pointless radar just to be worse than the existing Chieftain Marksman at the same BR. Though, judging by Britain 10.3, stacks of SPAA seem to be the British way, now. Taking the APDS because it never had it IRL? Fine. But move it down in BR, forget the gimmick radar, and give Britain some SPAA at a BR where it will be beneficial. Having Falcon at 7.7 alongside the Conq will be beneficial for the tree.

what company is it made by/ does it have a model number?
i can see this being a later addition like late 70’s early 80’s

This is the path im leaning to in terms of whats best for the tech tree

Falcon shouldnt have APDS anyway its Rd’s should be APCIT APHE and HE. The fact it should have a lead indciator also, isn’t related to having a radar, it’s a laser based system in the way Abrams does it, similiar to how M163 VADS leads.

I guess we should note that the Falcon can receive its radar/tracking and still go to 7.7, if the Veak 40 is anything to go by. It was literally only at 8.3 because of the APDS, as we all know.

the m163 is radar rangefinding much like whats on some planes like the swift/ hunters

im actually having fun researching this lol so thank you for that.
unfortunately i have hit a wall, to which there is a slim chance i can get around id just have to email the MoD/ foi request as ive tracked as far as the MoD taking deliveries of “defence computer systems” from Elliot Brothers/ GEC or maybe even BAE themselves since they aquired vickers… etc. but thats too much effort all to get a probable “no” response.

but with all that il admit that a radar could have gone there in the 70’s but to how useful it would have been who knows since radar in WT isnt really modelled the best at all anyway.
seriously id be happy with a full radar system overhaul update.
