When I was playing the I-16 type 10 and pulled up after diving on an enemy my vertical control surfaces didn’t respond as well as they should, In what other situations can this happen and why?
Its due to the high speed.
When the air moving around the aircraft increase in speed it also increase in force it applies, so any control surface has to fight that force to be able to move and at some point it can no longer move at all due to the force being larger than what the mechanical construction can deliver to counteract it.
it’s like trying to walk in a really strong headwind.

A tip for dealing with the issue is using the airbrake and decreasing throttle to around 30% while diving and then maxing throttle and turning off airbrake again when pulling out of the dive. It takes some practice but does make a difference :)
