I haven’t posted for awhile, but I have lately been grinding a lot more of my P-51D-5. As some of you may know, I first posted about the P-51D being unstable. I have been getting better at flying it, but still have trouble using it due to the horrendous rudder lock it gets when I am in the boom n zoom dive. This just makes it harder for me to aim, and when I miss my shot several times due to tough controlling, it makes the BnZ process so much harder for me. Is there any tips or “tricks” any of you folks can give me for other things I can try? I really would appreciate the help.

The P-51D’s are infamous for their rudders at high speed.
My usual recommendation, is to go vertical. Turn that kinetic energy back into potential then dive back in and try to get another shot.
This also works well in things like the MiG-15 and MiG-19.

The P-51 isn’t the best for energy traps, but they’re still PRETTY GOOD at them.
