More noob-friendly gameplay

Trust me. We all, at one time, have been new to war thunder. When you were a noob, did you like being wiped off the map by players much more advanced than you? Of course not! But, with the simple addition of tier settings on custom battles, that can all change! Leave some replies on ideas how to make war thunder more compelling to noobs.

I think some more PvE gamemodes would be benificial towards newer players due to them not having to fight people with more experience.

I think the major issue facing new players (and people unlocking a new tree) is crew skills.

I’ve placed my P-51-D-5 in Crew slot 5 which is basically untrained. I have a P-51 “Cannonstang” in crew slot 2 that’s maxed crew for G/stamina.

The difference that makes cannot be understated. A simple high speed split S to get on someone’s tail at around 5-6 G acceleration will almost black out my P-51-D-5 while my P-51 “Cannonstang” is completely unphased.

My P-51 “Cannonstang” can pull off high speed dives and maneuvers to stay on someone’s tail. The P-51-D-5 blacks out doing a spiral descent with a Bf109K4 with maxed crew (based on the amount of battles the guy had n their K4).

I am not sure how to really fix this though without upsetting those who paid for faster advancement. Maybe considering crew skills for matchmaking in air RB at least? Like, try to match people with similar G/stamina tolerance so you don’t get absurd differences between a person who just started an air tree and has like lvl 1-2 G/Stamina vs someone with an experted crew who absolutely loves that particular aircraft and has many dozens of hours in it. It won’t help in ASB but that lobby system is hard to work with anyhow.

It takes 5000 skill points to get max G/stamina, which is 500 000 RP.

There are 2 types of new players :

“He killed me in one shot! This is some BS!”
or
“He killed me in one shot! How did that happen and how do I do that?!”

Long term, it all depends what kind of player you want to have in game and what kind of reaction you encourage. (glares at those calling hacks in ARB cause they took a fox-3 to the face)

Think of games like -

Fortnite
CoD
Battle Field
WoT

VS

SCUM
ARMA
Tarkov
War Thunder

Totally agree, specially for Ground and Naval.

I find UNFATHOMABLE to even go into battle with a crew level lower than 45 and without expert qualification at least.

The differences in every way are enormous. Repair times, reload, gun handling (vertical and horizontal traverse speeds and agility), even resistence to fire, fuel tank explosions and spalling.

Me pro.

Several good points make already. They’ve changed the game quite a bit over the years to make it more noob friendly. The economics were set up so that if you died early you were out of the game. Now you die early you get to respawn several times. They’ve also dumbed the maps down a lot so there is much less options for strategy and map knowledge has less value. That said, as mentioned, the crew experience is a big factor. When you’re rolling with crews that have over 100 exp and Ace level in the vehicle its a big advantage. Obviously what comes with that is just player experience. Knowing where to shoot a particular tank or what shot to take and what shot not to take etc. I guess you could have a low level player category and see if you could make enough games out of players up to about lvl 20 or something as another step in helping players get up to speed.

I dont really know what to say to that. You see Ive been playing since Beta, and I have grinded my way from biplanes to BR 13.7 jets. You have several premiums you can buy now, and be in a halfway decent jet, not far from the top. Without trying to be rude, if you dont want to learn how to play the game like everyone else has, you should find an easier game. I can say, as a HALFway decent pilot, I cannot stand some of the upper tier battles, because I go into battle expecting to win and half my team is wiped out in the first two minutes because they bought a premium and its just a Call Of Duty game to them. Mate, anything in life worth having, you have to work for it. And I promise Im not trying to be rude to you. Watch YouTube videos, read the forum…etc. I have worked my way from a Level 0 to a Marshall, because I wanted to learn how to be better, and Im still learning.

You are the wisest person on war thunder. You should be on the gaijin team.

Most of the time the player skill doesn’t really matter, because most of the time you just killed by some bastard who camp at a spot and waiting someone to pass for the whole game. For new players the most important thing is the mindset and understanding of the map, don’t think the armour will save you and rush to the point. Understanding the map and learn where will the enemy probably come from and shot you from will save you from most of the time
