Same missile I think
This chart originates from a public presentation several years ago by Sun Cong, the chief designer of both the J-15 and J-35. The data within it has been declassified and sanitized, meaning it can only qualitatively illustrate the relative performance of the PL-12, PL-15, and PL-16 missiles, and should not be treated as precise figures.
Assuming this data were accurate, calculating the average speeds by reading the PL-12 and PL-15 ranges for both head-on and tail-chase engagements would yield absurd results.
The PL-16 has never been publicly unveiled, and it’s generally thought to be a missile similar in size to the PL-15 but featuring an aerodynamic configuration like the PL-17.
Yes as far as i know some missile active range can actually be modified on demand
Pl-16 is literally made for stealth aircraft isnt it not? They want it partially smaller to increase payload
On another not damn usa and their special access programs, i want some aim260 specs to nerd over. China has so much cool stuff they show. I know secrecy is likely better but certainly not for me.
Like this is the most theyve given us in years but its a render of god knows what.
I completely forgot about another potential future weapon, missiles keep getting bigger but for stealth aircraft small might be a strong tool. Things like the RTX Peregrine missiles are cool as hell, aim120 range(likely c-5/7) with thrust vectoring and a tri mode seeker which could potentially make it a replacement for aim9x as well(aim9x is probably cheaper though)
1 trillion dollars worth of new ordnance :))
Im curious as hell about aim260a, by everything that is known it should essentially be a done deal, hell there might be already missiles sitting in a warehous but the fact its a special access program is interesting.
It’s interesting indeed. Should be more effective than the Meteor, that’s for sure. I just want to actually see it on an aircraft
yup, looks like aim 260 not stuck with a ramjet motor like the metor. likely dual pulse
They’ve already produced hundreds of missiles I assume, based on the fact that they’ve been test firing them for 3 years now.
That seems likely, it would be a pretty funny coincidence if r77m and aim260a go “live” during the same time period
Idk about more effective, thats to be seen, meteor is no slouch, but the special access programs give me an inkling that aim260a is far from ordinary.
Stuck makes it seem like a negative. The ramjet is why the meteor is great.
ramjet is why the meteor is terrible, gonna accelerate like a pig (worse acceleration/top speed than c-5 btw). meta is high off bore super fast accelerating missiles, missiles that are shot from super far away can simply be notched using like 2- 3 chaff.
This is why i feel like gaijin should rework how BVR combat works since its too easy to defend against currently
When the meteors impacts you at mach 4 100 miles out i doubt “pig” is a word that would come to mind.
Regardless by the time missiles like meteor hit war thunser the meta will be NOWHERE near the same as now. Why? Because right now the meta makes “sense” because every missile has the same seeker and looses a large chunk of energy 10/15 miles out and notching past those ranges is trivial.
One of these has already seen combat, so that wouldn’t be surprising. The honey badger on the other hand may be less likely.
If Meteor has a C&P Aim-120B seeker. I would be mad. Though HOBS should come from ASRAAM and IRIS-T and not our ARH
In something like the Typhoon. The raw range means you can turn hot, engage something and then turn into the notch, keeping the target in sight of the radar thanks to its ability to look over the shoulder, all before the target has gotten into effective range to fire something like an Aim-120D
at this point i feel like we will get more advanced fox3s like aim120d/meteor/r77m/pl15 before we get IIR missiles for air. but i hope they slightly buff the seeker head on them or it’ll be wayy to easy to defeat them.
