Isn’t meteor a decent bit bigger than amraam
Most meta “normal sized” fox 3 imo will probably be future mica em/rf ng, then r-77m, pl-15, derby er (i forgot what went before the er that indicates better seekerhead), then aim-120d, aim-260 then meteor (wonder what guidance delay meteor would get). Might be forgetting a few
Yes, heavier and longer
Isn’t PL-15 more like a Aim-120D/Meteor equivalent?
Yeah but just basing its gonna be super good due to it likely getting the same guidance delay of .3 as pl-12 ( and all missiles on here will get the previous guidance delay of their earlier versions) which is why I think amraam/aim 260 will be the worst for high off bore shots. Meteor is really the only “new” missile that I got no idea how maneuverable it will be off rail
idk what gaijin will do with the gripen E i can see them giving it 7x meteors or denying it cus its only seen on mock ups. if they deny it i think its stuck with 4-5 meteors + 2 ir missiles which is still decent ig.
Also mica and r771 are also the only missiles that are able to be shot outside of their gimbal limits, so r-77m and mica ng will stay being the greatest at high off bore shots. Even though other radars like the ones in gripen e and aesa eurobomber do get the more than 90 degree gimbal limit, they can’t actually launch their arh missiles outside of that (not sure about meteors gimbal limits). So su-35/su-57/rafale(thru irst) whatever can literally stay completely defensive in the notch while firing missiles
i think it would refer to R-77/R-77-1 or mica-em.
Doesnt Meteor use the same seeker as the MICA? or at least one based upon it? Based upon the potential lack of information it will probably have a C&P MICA seeker. So the same gimbal limits and all.
But HOBS for a Meteor isnt that important imo. When you need HOBS, you’ll use an ASRAAM or IRIS-T. If you are in a BVR fight (and therefore using the METEOR) you’ll just fire it straight and then sit in the notch guiding it with the CAPTOR-E
I find it likely they’ll add next gen fox3s earlier than next gen fox 2s. Next gen fox 2s will likely be super hard to balance. Mica ir, asraam, modernized 27et and r-74m2 ( so basically all long range fox 2s) will become the meta. Especially the ones with datalink (so mica ir, r74m2, 9x blk 2 and maybe asraam blk 6? (Not sure about asraam)) will be oppressive
IMO, the biggest imbalance at top tier at the moment is the lack of HOBS for all. Gen 5 IRs are the best way to do that. But im guessing we’ll see a lack of flare resistance at long range and lock range limits
exactly and half the jets at top tier have less than 100-150 CMs and only half of that will be used for flares or less.
we would atleast need 1 fighter with maws for every tt before they add IIR missiles.
mbda makes the mica tho i dont see why they couldnt be referring to mica
Because mica isn’t an actual competitor to meteor, really only amraam is. Although yeah mica is possible
you’re underestimating european inefficiency lol
although its made by the same company mica is kind of a competitor to meteor, you ideally want to sell people on your most expensive product rather than the cheaper alternative, although yeah as far as selling to EF2k nations Aim120 is the only alternative.
Perhaps. But we had R-27ET long before MAWS on fixed wing was even a thing.
Though we arent far off.
Britain, Italy and Germany has MAWS with the Typhoon
France has MAWS with the Rafale
Sweden and Japan should have MAWS with the Gripen C, but that hasnt been added yet. Though they both could and probably should get the Gripen E that does have MAWS
No idea for US or Israel
Im guessing Soviets next jet will have MAWS and same for China.
Edit: China does have MAWS, just missed it
Not really, mica is only available on rafale and mirages, while meteor and amraam are on like every nato plane. It makes more sense comparing it to anraam than mica
Chinese jets already get maws, and the next flanker for Russia gets maws (su-35s). I think us/israel tested maws on their fourth gens but idk if they’re actually in service
