With r-77-1 even the basic M would definitely be 14.0, it has far better flight performance than the Su-30SM. Acceleration and climb rate at lower altitudes are close to EFT’s level.
But the 9-15 can’t get the R-77-1, only the 2005 MiG-29M/M2 can. It is in practice the same aircraft, it has just an uglier canopy.
Even with basic R-77 it would still be competitive though, it would basically be a M2K/J-10 on steroids.
With the advent of the Su-30SM in-game now, I feel the next logical thing for Gaijin to do for Russian air is to add something for the MiG-29 line. Personally, I’m still bitter Russia does not get a 13.0 MiG-29 with R-73 missiles despite the fact that they invented the airframe and missile. I really do hope this gets added, foldered with the 9-13 at 13.0 – then we could have something else for 13.7 and hopefully a 14.0 Fulcrum at some point as well.
Of the in service armament not any major stuff… as far as i have read some sources say that R-27EA was only tested on the 9-15, so if the EA ever comes to the game the 9-15 would certainly equip it (it could also easily be the only one to use them, since supposedly is the only one to fire them)
The MiG-29 9.13S can fill that roll pretty well. It can pull 2 degrees more of AoA, has access to R-7ERs, R-73s and apparently R-77s along with an upgraded N019M radar. Not sure if it gets upgraded engines like the german MiG-29A/G or an upgraded rwr, but it would still be pretty good for a 13.0
It could have gotten the SPO-15T, as it was being tested in during the 1990s, but im not sure. (SPO-15T is essentially a digitalized version of regular SPO-15)
I’d prefer it to be TT but i love this plane so much that even if added as a premium i’d buy It even though i already have the entire soviet tree researched lol
Oh God, it’s already May 4th. Based on previous years’ update schedules, the major update trailer should drop by the end of this month. I really hope to see the MiG-29M in the preview!
It would be amazing but tbh at this point i’m kinda pessimistic… I think they’ll rush modern stuff until there’s nothing else left to be added, then they’ll start filling the gaps.
Today is May 21st, and there’s not much time left before the major update trailer drops. Come on, Gaijin—please add this aircraft to the Russian tech tree!
I dont think it would be compatible with the R-77-1 sadly. The longest range missile it could theoretically get, in my opinion, would be the R-27EA. If the EA isnt added the regular R-77 will be the best it could get for ARHs
Isn’t the only difference between the R77 and R77-1 the two stage motor? I thought all R77 carrying planes in game are R77-1 compatible but gaijin hasn’t given them it for balance reasons
IRL the OG R-77 actually never entered service with the RuAF, they went straight for the R-77-1.
And no the R-77-1 and R-77 have the same motor I think, the main difference is lofting, which increases range, as well as some aerodynamic modifications.
For a better answer you can check the R-77 forum page
But when they added it to the live build, they changed it to a bit longer burning 1 stage motor like the R-77’s. There’s also some extra thrust that accounts for the extra weight, so they still accelerate about the same.
R-77 - 6 second single stage motor, 129.94 ms² acceleration
R-77-1 - 7 second single stage motor, 128.16 ms² acceleration
