As far as I can tell, it doesn’t seem to be a PL-12:

1- For example, I think I see a clear difference in wing construction (Unless some other variant of PL-12 has a similar wing construction):

2- Also the windows for the TDD / proximity fuze seem to be long and longitudinal on the PL-12, while they are short and lateral on the North Korean missile.

So I think it’s likely that the external design was “inspired” by PL-12 (Like Fakour-90’s external design was by AIM-54).

Or perhaps the Chinese gave them some help with the design and some components; Though I find it unlikely as the Chinese don’t like the North Koreans very much …

My overall guess?

The external design was inspired by PL-12, but internally it probably / possibly uses some R-77 components …

None of their stuff is brand name, it’s what was at home in the fridge. Still just a PL-12 equivalent.

AFAIK R-27ER was given to PVO as a priority, which MiG-29 is not generally used in and Su-27 is.

Good to know, I didn’t knew why, I just knew that it was mostly/ only used on the Su27

It made no sense to equip the MiG-29 with a weapon that outranged the radar.
In retrospect, it may have been useful to have a weapon with better time to target, but that is something they probably hadn’t considered necessary.

No MiG-29 FM fixes?

There was never any expectations for fixes, so no

Not really that simple, in a similar way to the 9M33M3 outranging the Osa-AKM guidance system.

Range is just energy, but that energy can be used in other ways. Against manoeuvring targets especially.

That’s why they made the R-27R accelerate slower and maneuver harder than the R-24R.

Well the amount of energy the R-27R gets out of it is comparable to the R-24R, its just spread over a longer burn time.

Yet it can maneuver better at high altitude than the R-24R, enabling it to actually hit the targets.

The R-24R’s are no slouch at hitting their targets.

They are considerably underperforming as well, just fyi

Make a bug report

Why, I showed them the F-5’s are considerably overperforming and they do nothing for “balance” lol, no need to bother with such reports anymore.

Where is this from?

It’s quite interesting that Gaijin refuses to buff the MiG-23 to historical levels even though it would potentially increase their profits from the premium MiG-23ML.
