Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

That’s debatable. 9.19 and 9.18 do not feature any internal ECM. 9.15 and 9.31 were supposed to have ECM, but obviously never hit mass production. 9.41 and 9.41SM are the only modern MiGs and visually there is no evidence of jamming equipment.

Y-axis: degrees per second
X-axis: speed, in this case km/h

ITR means Instantaneous Turn Rate, which is the maximum turn rate the aircraft can achieve for a short moment. This happens when you hold full S on the keyboard, or when you pull fully back on the joystick. In the graph, this is shown by the solid line of each aircraft. The solid blue line represents the F-16A Block 10, and the solid orange line represents the MiG-29KR. The higher the line is, the more degrees per second the aircraft can turn at that moment.

The reason why the aircraft turns more when it pulls more G is because G represents how hard the aircraft is changing direction. When you pull more G, the wings generate more lift, and that lift is used to force the aircraft into a tighter turn. In simple terms, more G means a stronger turn, so the aircraft can rotate faster and achieve a higher turn rate. However, pulling more G also creates more drag, so the aircraft loses speed and energy faster. Look at the F16 maximums G’s, it doesn’t have a G limiter so it can pull up tu 16,5G.

In this graph, the F-16A has a better maximum ITR than the MiG-29KR. The F-16 reaches approximately 42 degrees per second, while the MiG-29KR stays around 38 or 39 degrees per second. This means that if both aircraft pull as hard as possible in a short maneuver, the F-16 can turn faster, especially at medium-high speeds, around 700–800 km/h, which is where its maximum ITR peak is.

STR means Sustained Turn Rate, which is the turn rate the aircraft can maintain without losing energy. To see this, you should not only look at the solid line, but also at the SEP lines, especially the SEP 0 ft/s line. When an aircraft is at SEP 0, it means it can maintain that turn without gaining or losing energy. If it is at negative SEP, it is losing speed or altitude, if it is at positive SEP, it still has excess energy.

In the graph, the MiG-29KR has better STR in several areas, because its orange SEP 0 line is above the blue F-16 line, meaning it turns more degrees per second. This means that although the F-16 can turn harder for an instant, the MiG can maintain a slightly better turn without losing energy as quickly.

In summary, and explained simply, the F-16A has better instantaneous turn rate because its solid line reaches higher. On the other hand, the MiG-29KR has better sustained turn rate because its SEP 0 line is above the F-16’s.

only one i know of is the italian elt/568(v)2

9.20 UPG also uses this

MiG-35
Icon clearly show MiG-29UPG
Even Italians are inconsistent when it comes to MiG

i mean the picture shows something looking like the UPG but the sign says its for the MiG-35

That’s… what i said

i miss understood what you typed

thought you said it was for the UPG only because of the model lol

We don’t know for sure what is inside of LERX compartments in 9.41. Indians use Tarang RWR, and Russia L-150 so they should be free from RWR equipment.
But thats only frontal hemisphere, i haven’t seen anything on Indian 9.41 that would look like an antenna, and you can see how big of a compartment it needs, looking at UPG

although Tarang might be installed right there, Indian 9.41s don’t have knobs on the wings
Unless Tarang requires only 2 antennas for full cover on a smaller aircraft

here is the open compartment on a 9.41 airframe

741 was later turned into a MiG-29M? I forgot the history of prototypes

741 is the only 9.41S built

Ah, i confused it with 941, my bad

wasnt there also a pod that had an integrated missile launch rail?

belarussian talisman yes

Belorussian Talisman pod. R-73 launch rail can be installed under it. But, unlike MSP-418K it is a dual pod system

indian 9.41 has been seen using the talisman and the elt-8222 pod

would be ideal for the outermost pylon where you are forced to take the r-73 anyways
